I've never heard of most of the millionaires in the world.... so chances are they won't be remembered when they're gone.

I just want to be happy, make enough to make me content and comfy.... there's no need to impress anyone else.

Its all about making your own life as good as possible. I dont care about others if they are filthy rich or if they clean toilets. They could both be my enemy of friends.

I don't know what it's all about, but I think contributing to the greater good is a worthwhile effort.

I have some hope that this existence has purpose, although, I acknowledge the possibility that there might not be any purpose.

I'm not sure there is a definition of "greater good", I think it's more of a personal belief in what makes this world better. Obviously that depends on the beliefs of the individual. All I can focus on is what I consider to be the greater good.

achieving is just something to kill the time in between the time we are born and the time we die... it's like a preference... some people like pepperoni on their pizza, some anchovies... some like to underachieve, some like to achieve..

mmmkay?

very true. when youre dead it all amounted to nothing. i truly believe that life, on earth, is hell...literally. your life is your test to see what and where you will be placed when you die.

now when you die, if you passed the life test, that is when peace actually begins. unless you are recycled back into the living somehow.

Achieving something only gives you the illusion that your life is somehow important. The illusion helps you get through the day. And the man at the bottom of the mountain always believes that his life will somehow be worth something if he could just find a way to climb that mountain...

Accomplishing things just keeps me going - does it make me better than anyone else? Definitely not. As much as I may like bigger/better things - I'm content with the necessary stuff. As long as my family is healthy, safe and near I'm good. I've done all sorts of jobs - so long as it's an honest job and you're content doing whatever it is that you're doing - you're on top of your world.

Used to think about this all the time and I came to the conclusion that for me the point/what I want is to live a comfortable life without unneeded hassles....... You see businessmen, celebrities, musicians etc. with great wealth but no real control over their lives. They have to do certain things to maintain their lifestyles like go to work, go on tour, promote their movies/projects etc. While the rewards may be great I'd rather live a more modest yet comfortable life where I don't need to wake up at 7am, answer to people or put on a smile every day if I don't feel like smiling.

I got married a year and a half ago and now I really appreciate being able to work from home and spend all day with my wife and our baby when he gets born in April 2005. If I was able to have a much higher income and have to sacrifice my freedom with business trips, answering to a boss etc. there is no way in hell I would do it. Life is too short and just flies on by so you might as well just do whatever makes you happy/comfortable.

So the point is to just do whatever it is that makes you happy

with great power comes great responsibility.

when wronged, revenge is expected, mercy is power

everything matters.

what if your achievements - everything you stive for - is meant to allow one insignificant person to take one more step some day. The one tiny thing - tiny tiny step could have reprocussions beyound anything ever achieved or imagined before - traced back to one tiny step - but what if that step, that tiny tiny tiny step happened cause of something you did?

everything matters

in LA i was outside a taco place with a few guys - this street bum came upto us and started to talk to us while we waited for our tacos. We had nothing else to do - some chose to ignore him - Lars and I listened. This man had no idea who Lars was, but he showed him respect and Lars gave him respect back. When he asked for $2 for a beer lars dug into his pocket but only had a $1 on him, i instantly provided the other dollar.

it made his day - he didn't mean shit to either of us, but it made his day.

i liked doing that - and i know lars did as well. it didn't mean shit, but what if - what if -

it does...............................everything matters, everyone deserves respect and starts there with me.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

I think the point of it all is to just enjoy life. But I think what a lot of us workaholics forget to truly do it and enjoy the simple things around us. Whenever you look at people who are barely making minimum wage enjoy their free time all they do is grab a beer, watch a game and have some friends over.

It costs them nothing but to them they are having as good a time as you or me when we spend thousands on partying or hanging out at exclusive places with exotic women.

So, it kinda makes you think... what is the point of busting my ass to play at that level when it's possible for Hector the gardener to enjoy himself just as much as I do at the P. Diddy parties only with a $3 six pack of Pabst Blue ribbon and a football game with Juan and Chuey.

A $3 six pack will never make me happy but you guys get the point. We are overworking to get to a point that we think the fun starts at but we should enjoy every day we are alive 100% like they do.

there is no point to life really, we aren't any more relevant than the bugs we walk on or the animals we eat, we just have higher intelligence which allowed us to believe we are better than them and our lives have some deep meaning, also the fear of death and nature that made people invent God and religions.

but i don't think just because in the grand scheme of things we mean nothing that the 70-80 years we spend here shouldn't be put to some good use and people should have a good time, enjoy whatever this world has to offer - we do have a responsibility to the generations that will follow and others who are here at the same time not to fuck them up.

nice people rule - sometimes I will meet somebody who is just way too nice and the curmudgeon in me thinks they are either total morons or they are fake - but the truth is there are people out there who are genuinely nice and would give another person the shirt off their back if they needed it. Then i get back on the Internet and see the flip side - the anger, nastiness and cruelty in what I think is the vast majority of people and it's kinda depressing - because I schizophrenic that way - I can have a heart of gold and go way beyond what I have to for people but I can also be pretty mean beyond what is warranted in certain situations.

People have always thought I spend way too much time trying to count how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. They're right I think but I will always lean towards 'A life unexamined isn't a life worth living' - I don't know how to be a blissful idiot, they have happier lives for sure. I see them every day, takes almost nothing to make them happy.

I can bring any shrink to his knees and make him weep.

The point of it all is to Create.

That is why we are here. You can expound on that word to a number of directions. But I'm convinced after my years here in this life so far that is the one commonality.

-well, if they work 9-5 and barely make minimum wage just to get by I don't think they happy. If they're happy then they just don't really realize what they doing in life anyways (blind to reality and stuck in the system).

"It costs them nothing but to them they are having as good a time as you or me when we spend thousands on partying or hanging out at exclusive places with exotic women. "

- do you really think sitting at home, with zero money, drinking beer and watching tv is better then spending thousands with exotic women ?

- i know what you are saying, but the gardener is enjoying himself with $3 six pack is because he can NOT afford to do anything else, if he could afford he would do it.

when you are poor and living check to check just to get by you can not see the world the same as people with money... poor people don't have a choice, they just happy with what they have and try to make the best with it... rich people can choose what they want, sometimes they can be lonely, but so can poor people.. i rather drive tricked out 760Li, have a decent home, not to worry about anything then working on a gas station with no future but being happy drinking $3 beer with friends...

I give money to truly destitute people, but a lot of these folks are pro con artists that make a living acting poor and fooling people all day long.

The worst I ever saw and it really pissed me off were these two guys dressed up like they were Vietnam vets. One was in a wheel chair and the other had a crutch. I got taken and gave them both money. Later in the day I was driving back on the same road and saw them both walking and putting their stuff in the back of a nice car and counting a wad of cash.

So often when I spot a faker, I say, fuck you get off your lazy ass and get a real job like everyone else.

I believe that the people who clean the toilets are very important people.

I doubt most of these big, bad bling-blingers would last two seconds on a job like that...

That is why we are here. You can expound on that word to a number of directions. But I'm convinced after my years here in this life so far that is the one commonality.

Might as well have a good time along the way.

When he asked for $2 for a beer lars dug into his pocket but only had a $1 on him, i instantly provided the other dollar.
there is this old Chinese lady and her husband in Banff - anyone who's ever lived in Banff from more than a couple of weeks will know exactly who i'm talking about. i'm quite sure they are illegal immigrants. they make all of their money purely from collecting bottles and pop cans. don't speak a word of English. you can always see her riding around on her bike, carrying a logistically impossible amount of bottles and cans in large garbage bags attached to her bike.

anyway, this couple helps keep Banff as clean as it is (in other words, extremely clean), and they somehow make enough to pay the exorbitant rent (they live in the same complex my brother did when he used to work for me and lived up there - it isn't cheap). i have given her a 100 dollar bill once every year, since 2001. it literally blows her mind, each time. i don't think she thinks i'm a real person, and honestly it's a trippy experience for myself too. i haven't lived there since 2002, but i still end up in Banff a couple of times each year, and i always end up seeing her in the streets (usually early in the morning), and simply hand her a 100 dollar bill. it's the weirdest thing.

regardless, 'there is no such thing as a selfless act'.

Dude, I don't think I was clear in my last post. The point was, if they can enjoy themselves for that moment they are drinking beer, relaxing & yukking it up with friends JUST AS MUCH as I do when doing fancy schmancy things then the whole point of working as hard as we do is moot. It doesn't take a lot to have a good time. Sure, most people would like to Ski @ Whistler or fuck 2 babes in a Jacuzzi in South Beach but it's possible to have just as much fun hanging in a Wal-mart parking lot after hours with the right people.

Most of us work extra hard because we think that's what we need to do in order to keep on doing the fancy schmancy things that bring us enjoyment when the little things in life can and often do bring just as much enjoyment. Unfortunately our spoiled outlook becomes twisted and we don't take the time out to do those little things... and in the process of not doing them life passes you by... but you don't notice it because you are "working hard."

At the end of the day what do you look back on and smile about, the productive day you had or the meaningful and entertaining time you had doing something you enjoy?

I know my memories are full of good times and those good times fortunately outnumber the large biz accomplishments in my memories. Unfortunately as I get older the opposite is happening because work takes a greater role in life.

That brings me back to Quiet's original post, what is it all for? I say it's for the good times and great memories that come from connecting with people. Money is irrelevant.

i would be feeling useless and have no self respect if i were cleaning toilets fulltime for the living.

thats just the way i am raised - get a descent job, status and money and a bitch. don't be scared of pressure of achieving it all.

now who you'd like to be friends with, with a good respected lawyer, or a toilet cleaner. (yeah yeah, it doesnt matter... u ll say)
