Prob too young, but I would say game cube. Although PS2 has something called EyeToy that my daughter loved at that age.

I'd go PS2 ... it has tons of kids games and you can get the PS1 games dirt cheap ...and the kids love them ...plus you have the bonus of buying the cool PS2 games for yourself ..

Gamecube hands down.
I own all systems, The mario Series is great for kids and they have more kid friendly games than any console. And When he gets older he;ll be able to play Metroid Prime. The greatest game ever.

gamecube is oriented for younger children, their games are great for kids, my nephew got one when he was 4 and loved it.
