Anyone here relocated to Canada? I need advice

Im thinking about it, just becoming a resident of Canada. I love Canada.
How did you do it? did you just up and go to the border or did you get lawyers and all that?
What do you do about your taxes and health insurance? Do you pay amerian taxes and have to buy your own health insurance there?

Im just thinking of becoming a resident. I dont want to vote there or become a citicen or anything like that. Id just like to live in Canada.

I looked into this for temporary status, it seems easier than trying to live in the US. Try reading through their website.

Immigration to Canada is (as with many first world countries) based on a point system.

There is an application (with fees) you fill out and an assortment of identification and supporting documentation is required.

Then, you are (sloooooooowly) assigned a point value based on various factors such as country of origin, wealth, education, reasons for your immigration, sponsorship, etc.

There is a quota for the number of immigrants and as (if) you get to the appropriate place in the queue, you get to come over under a set of guidelines for a period of time.

After this time has expired and you have not strayed from the guidelines, you are entitled to apply for citizenship.

That's how it was when I sponsored my wife to come into Canada.

We just spent 5 days up there looking at houses in the Banff area...opened a bank account etc. Anyone in this biz should be looking to it as an alternative to what this administration is bringing upon us.

If you were to try and get in under the business immigrant class you better apply now. It seems the government has put those app's on the back burner.

It's going to be a lot harder right now as I am sure there is an influx of americans coming up.

You should call the immigration office and ask specific questions. They can help you.

Canada is a RAD place to live (I'm originally from UK).

Immigration isn't the nicest thing though.. but if you have a decent financial history you shouldn't encounter too many problems.

Definitely check out the www.cic.gc.ca site - but don't just think Montreal.. BC is where it's at!!!
