Twice, both times car accidents.

First time I was in grade 4 and had a fractured spine. Was paralyzed for weeks.

Second time was a serious spin out in my car and had a collission with the median. Walked unharmed from this one but was really shaken up mentally.

When I was in 3rd grade I was running home from school, being chased by a friend and I wasn't looking where I was running. I got hit by a bicycle, thrown to the road and had a car screech to a halt so close that I was looking at the oil pan when it stopped. Some part of the bike went through my cheek and I had a hole the size of a quarter clear through.

I have been in intensive care at a hospital for over a week twice in my life from other mishaps.

Had bad vomiting, fever, sweats, totally jacked up in a matter of hours... she calls the DR.

Dr. has no idea what to do other than get me to the hospital PRONTO...I puke and hallicunate the 45 min drive there in the car.

Get to the hospital, get checked in, get whisked off to an isolation room where everyone around me is in space suit looking things as im sitting there alone in my underwear. (( always wear clean underwear, lol))

I get placed in room that has a bed and TV on the wall only, everything else was stripped out apparently. My doctors as well about 15 other doctors come in w/masks on and are examinig, talking, etc.... still no idea whats up and Im getting sicker.

They have a priest come sit with me for last rights, confessions, etc since I am catholic.... at this point, im completely out of my mind from what I remember.

The odd part was that I saw my grandfather that I never met since he died before I was born. We had a conversation that he told me about heaven and what its like... Totally peaceful and calming..... I also saw the face of Jesus and talked to him. He asked me if I wanted to stay or come with him home. I said that I'd like to stay and check things out here on earth.....

As I was lying there dying, a Medical conference was happening at Temple hospital, a Dr there from the Center for Diease control was there speaking and was told of my case. He came in, examined me and told the Doctors that I had Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Since I am male, no one thought to look for TSS to be what was causing my body to shut down so fast.

They got me all kinds of meds that made me sleep about 23 hours a day. I could only stay up to see the news at 5pm and then passed out again to crash....

14 days later I was out of the hospital and spent the rest of the summer vacation from school recovering with Mom watching me like a hawk....

The stragest part wasconversing my grandfather that I saw at the edge of life/death who was dead before I was born, he also hated having his pics taken so I never knew what he looked like.

About a month later my mother was cleaning the house and located her wedding album that actually had a pic of my grandfather that was dead. It was the same fucking image that I saw on the edge..... I'll never forget that momment of realizing that maybe there is somewhere out there.........

I almost drowned when I was 9 and when I was 15 I should have died in a car accident, but the car stopped before going over the edge of a cliff. Incedently I wasn't injured either time.

I had a close friend Die in a car accident, then he was revived.

I came close, or at least it felt like I did and I never want to feel it again!

I was at the Cliffhouse in San Fran and was choking and had to get the Heimlick Manuveur done.. I couldn't talk or breathe and just stood up and my mom started yelling for somebody to help me.

The waitor came over and tried but he was panicking.. I got to the point where I couldn't really see anymore and the last thing I remembered was somebody yelling CALL 911!! The next thing I remember is a lady standing behind me, she was a nurse and it was over.

Oh yeah, I choked on chocolate mousse, how the hell does that happen. She said it was blocking my asophogus and my body was panicking.

I was shot twice in a drive by when I was 13 once in the chest and once in the knee spent 2 weeks in coma....

C_U_Next_Tuesday 11-12-2004 12:20 PM

I had an insane kidney infection that almost killed me. I never go to the doctors, so i didnt think anything of having a really bad lower back pain...I ignored it for a few days till it got to the point I coulont even stand up. Then the fever started... it was well over 104 for three days.. I was to delirious to check to see what it really was.. after the 4th day at home.. ... I felt better. I woke up, called my bro.. he came to pick me and my son (who was 1 at the time) and we were to hang out all day. After a few hours in town I started feeling really sick again.. my fever was at 105 and I was starting to lose my eyesight.. I literally couldnt see anything.

my poor brother had a gig to play in an hour.. but didnt want to leave me or his nephew.. so I had a friend rescue me..took me to the hospital to find out I had a fever of 106..they immediately started pumping me full of shit..checking for brain damage.. I lay in the hospital for 6 days.. 4 of those days my temp was at 106..i thought my brain was frying. The doctor told me that if I wouldnt have come to the hospital I would have died from seizures from the high fever.

The reason i got the Kidney infection... crazy ass rough sex..whoa!

pornguy 11-12-2004 12:24 PM

I was involved in a motorcycle crash. I snapped my left femur in half about 4 inches above the knee.

After two weeks in the hospital they put me into surgery, and that was when they realized that I had 3 blood clots in my lungs. ( xrays before the cutting table,) The inserted a 3 lb rod into my femur and sent me back to my room on massive blood thinners. I was not alloud to shave for fear of me cutting myself and bleeding to death. I was on 30 liters of oxygen per minute, and had an ache in my chest that was killing me. Found out later that my heart stopped during the surgery., They had to flip me over and jump start me again.

Spent two more weeks in the hospital pissing off the nurses, because I kept pinching their asses.

I was told that I would never run again, and would have a hard time walking.

I proved them wrong on both.

BradM 11-12-2004 12:25 PM

I have been twice. Gives me a different perspective on life than many others. :glugglug

LadyMischief 11-12-2004 12:34 PM

I almost bled to death after having my second child. I woke up from the surgery freaking out because they had me on oxygen and whatnot, and I freaked out even more when I heard the nurses frekaing out because I was bleeding out fast, they thought they cut an artery when they did the surgery, and that they had to call the doctor back in to take me into emergency surgery and give me salene etc. I came through it ok, but it turns out I have a severe bleeding problem. I was very afraid that I would be leaving the world and my two little children behind. It was pretty close.

Chichio 11-12-2004 12:36 PM

I never actually saw the light but I've had two times in my life where I've thought: "I really could've and maybe should've died there."

The first was at a club in Kansas City. These two groups of extremely hardcore gang-banger guys were in line with my friends and I. They start talking shit to each other and before you know it, it's a full on shoot out. One bullet hit right by my head on the wall behind me and my friend was shot in the leg. All we were doing was waiting in line to get in.

The second was when I wrecked my car when I was 23. I tore the thing in half across a light pole on a major freeway and somehow all three of us walked away. I'm lucky beyond words for that one.

Sly 11-12-2004 12:36 PM

When I was 13 I got pneumonia really, really bad. My left lung was completely full of fluid so it couldn't function properly at all. My right lung was 50% full of fluid. Due to being sick for several days I was also severely dehydrated and had strep throat.

I had someone call 911 for me because I literally could not breath. As I took a deep breath the mucus in my lungs got caught and obstructed the airway. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest and there was nothing I could do about it. I struggled and took in another deep breath, finally breaking loose the clogged air passage. It was a bit of relief but at the same time I was terrified that another clog would come, but the next time I may not be able to break free.

Once I got to the hospital I was feeling a little better but not much. The doctor took x-rays and sent me home after seeing the pneumonia. Later that day my regular doctor received copies of the x-rays and ordered me to return to the hospital for a couple days. Was a good thing he ordered me back, I got even worse real quick.

My blood oxygen level dropped to the 80s (I'm usually around 97, which is good). When you drop under 90 they start to worry. You get very lightheaded and delirious. You feel like absolute crap and you just want to sleep.

They plugged me into an oxygen feed and put me on a ventilator to help open my air passages. Gave me an IV with antibiotics and "sugar water" to hydrate my body. Ordered me to eat and drink constantly... do you have any idea how difficult it is to eat when you can't breathe? I also received chest percussion therapy 4 times a day, 1 hr. sessions where they basically beat the crap out of my chest and back to help break the mucus up.

At one point a doctor came in and told me my life would be changed forever. He said that if I made it home (yes, IF), I would probably be sick for the rest of my life. He also said that most healthy people in that situation would have a very difficult time pulling through... due to my pre-existing medical condition, I obviously wasn't considered "healthy".

On the 3rd or 4th day a doctor came in again. Told me things were not getting better. He would give the chest therapy one more day to show results or they would need to stick a couple tubes into my lungs to start sucking out the crap. Somehow the next day my x-rays showed improvement. The therapy started to work.

Since then, I now sleep with a ventilator at night and do chest therapy once a day to keep my passages open. Oddly enough, a year later the same thing happened to me again. That time I truly thought I was done.

Don't know how I made it through, but I did. Maybe it was God looking over me, or maybe it was just me being my usual persistent self. Haven't been sick like that once since, though last fall I did have a small scare. Shit like that puts your life in check. You could lose everything in a matter of seconds.

Nichebux_Tony 11-12-2004 12:39 PM

When I was 4 I got hit by a car, there were actually two cars trying to avoid me and were zigzagging to avoid me & a headon collision. I was in a intensive care probably a coma, due to head injuries and what not. All I remembered was the two cars just before being hit. When I was 11, I was in an office with my grandmother and the secretary was talking about near death experiences. She asked if I knew what it was - I described it in total detail - a mountain, the vibrant colors around it, the tunnel, the welcoming light calling you - asking you if you really think you should be there or if you want to go back. This lady sat there with her mouth open and then asked where I read about it - I didn't and just then realized that it was my view of what I saw and I just at that moment remembered I saw it when I woke up at the hospital when I was little, I was wearing the same outfit cuz it was mother's day.

The other strange thing is that the day after this encounter with the secretary and revelation of this experience - I met one of the drivers of the car - the one that took off and didn't bother to find out how I was.

The freakier part, was I only found the police report a few years ago. My husband was born on the day of my accident.

Do not take the brown acid

TheSaint 11-12-2004 01:12 PM

Crashed and burned motorcycle racing. :1orglaugh

It was largely a pleasant experience, no pain until later. Since I didn't think I could survive, my only fear was having a spinal inury or something worse than death.

Funny thing - I was a bigtime smoker back then and I came too to find a horde of people staring at me and the ambulance on the way.

I casually asked the crowd who had a cigarette, selected the best brand, and smoked it there on the pavement while I waited.:thumbsup

He had a piercing in every part of his body with chains and wires connecting them all, it was like a scary version connect the dots....plus he weighed two pounds and was telling me how he was just in the hospital for being shot at by some hahahahahahas!

KingAsher 11-12-2004 01:25 PM

I have had many terrible accidents, only some of them have been near death experiences though. Two come to mind. First when I was only about 5 or 6 years old, I was running around the house with a fake microphone (you know the microphone with the foam top) this time there wasnt any foam on the top of the microphone so it was just a peice of plastic. Anyhow I was running around the house , I then tripped and fell and hit the wall, the peice of plastic went up into the roof of my mouth only centimeters away from main arteries. Still have a bad ass scar on the roof of my mouth.

The other time, I got run over by my friends car, while I had been holding onto the drivers side window on a skateboard, he was going too fast and I panicked and put my foot down on the pavement, and forgot to let go and got dragged under the car, popped the right side of my chest out permanently and suffered severe third degree burns on my foot (thought it was just a scratch and didnt go to the hospital for 2 weeks) But when everything was all said and done Im still breathing.

Ana Laura 11-12-2004 01:40 PM

Does it happen every night?

Does it happen if you try to take a quick nap during the day or if you try deep relaxation/meditation?

Next time you go to sleep try to observe yourself during the process.

It will be hard as we are just used to drifting off and waking up in the morning for many years but if you regularly try to remain conscious while falling asleep (if that makes any sense) you may learn something about the process that will remove your fear of death. I think we all have an inbuilt fear of death whether we say we are religeous/spiritual atheist whatever. Another name for it is the survival instinct.

Some things you may notice immediately or after a while of trying regularly may include hearing/feeling a buzzing or ringing sensation as well as paralysis, (not being able to move your body or really be aware of it at all but still be conscious). :upsidedow

1. when I was 18 I tryed to swim accros the lake near my town, aprox 1mi. I got to 95% of that, but then I lost my legs and nearly drown, I was screaming for help for like 5 min, till somebody heard me.

2. I hated my first boss, and one time when he sent me to buy him some food, I called a friend of mine and we raced with the cars. This was on a narrow 2-way road, and I was almost ahead of him when a car poped up in the lane I was driving. Only my mad skillz keeped me (and the car, it was a Honda) in one piece. Btw, this road was uphill road with no fence, so there you go.

Yes, I was once only inches away from a head on collision. :(

After my near death experience, I felt like a ghost. When I entered my house and saw my shoes just sitting there, and all my stuff just how I had left it, it REALLY hit home.

I was standing outside of a pool hall with my ex GF when I was 17. As we walked out, a gang member ran by and when he got about 2 feet away, a truck drove by, opened fire which missed my head by about a foot. The kid dropped, the kids in the truck jumped out, grabbed his limp body and threw it in the truck.
