My identity was stolen..sigh..

Well some really really fucked up shit happend. I was in Arizona and a friend and I were on our way to Glendale, California. We stopped at casino marengo to play some hold em. Ok so I goto the ATM to withdrawl a couple hundred bucks and it says i've been denied. I call my bank and they said that I was overdrawn. I was like how is this possible. They said somone put a fake atm deposit of 2,400$ with nothing in the envelope. They then withdrew 400$ 3 fucking times. So im seriously tripping out. I ask how did this happen the guy said he doesnt know. Im like if I have my check card how is that fucking possible. WTFFFFFFFFFFF, and now my account is frozen and I cant take any money out. Not that I have much left in that checking account. So shit is pretty fucked up.. and the worse thing is.. I have to fucking wait 6-7 business days for them to come to conclusion on the claim. WTFFFFFFFFFFF not my day I swear. Funny thing is that I forgot to mention is the atm deposit and withdrawl were about 500 miles from where I was at that time... sigh. Has this happend to any of you? I need some drinks.

Most likely you used your Card at a place where the cashier was on the take with a fake machine that read your card magnetic strip and captured your PIN #.
Then all they have to do is program a blank card, go to some ATM, make a fake deposit and withdraw as much cash as possible...

That sucks :: sorry 2 hear.

This bring up an interesting point:

DO you submit your social when signing up for affiliate programs?

I don't. I figure, if I make enough cash than I'll give them my real SSN.

Some security guy from AT&T called me earlier today to ask if I had charged any long distance calls to my line lately. Apparently some asshole in North Carolina has made $4000 dollars worth of long distance calls to Germany and charged them to my phone. At least they caught it before I did. He said it will be on my next bill, but I should just ignore it and not pay it and they will take it off.

i am with Wells Fargo, I don't understand how he did it if I have never lost my card, I asked the bank guy I was speaking with on the phone and he said he has no idea either. I am heading over to the banks main office here in Glendale. I will let you know what they say.

something similar happened to me about a year and half ago.

short version of the story is: a guy that I used to work with came over to my new house to hang out. I hadn't seen him in a couple of years. We hung out for a few hours and he left. A couple weeks later I get a call from a store telling me my check to them bounced. I've never been in this store, never heard of it and the check was for $1400 so I call the bank. My checking account and my savings account are empty. The way I had my accounts setup was that if a check hit and there was no money in checkin, it took it out of savings. Anyway this prick stole a blank check of mine while I was in the bathroom and printed up more then wrote them all over town. About half of them cleared then I ran out of money and the other 20 or so bounced. He also used my name and info to open up several credit accounts at jewlery stores and electronics stores. So suddenly I had about 40K in credit. He maxed them all out on stuff and then sold the stuff.

I had an idea who it was, saw a tape from one of the stores and eventually he got caught but a year and a half later I'm still dealing with the shit.

Here's some things you need to do now. First, you can go to your local police department and get a identity theft kit. This will have some good info about things to do and how to protect yourself. If they don't have one you need to

1. make sure that no reciept you ever get has your full account number on it.

2. shred any mail or paper you throw out that has your info on it.

3. call the major credit reporting agencies and activate the fraud protection on your credit. What this will do is force companies to call you and verify it is you apply for credit before they issue it. This is how they caught the guy that did it to me. I activated it and a couple days later he was in a store trying to get more credit. They called me a home and I told them to call the police that it wasn't me. The numbers should be in the police kit, if you don't get that your bank should have them.

4. ask your bank if they have any steps to verify pirchases. I know with my bank they have a system where if I suddenly start using my card to buy a lot of stuff that is out of the oridaniry for me ( in dollar amounts ) they call me. They actually did this when I went on vacation a little while back and was spending a bunch on my card.

5. If you don't have one, buy a small safe or lockbock that you can keep your checkbooks, passports, birth certificates etc. in.

Just a few things. But for certian you need to call today and have the fraud protection put on your credit. If whoever did this has access to your ATM card and your pin# then they can easily, and quickly, run up some massive bills.

good luck and I hope they figure it out.

Sorry to hear that, when my place was broken into they stole my checkbook and wrote 20k in forged checks... my bank was great though, I didn't lose any money and they set me up a new account ASAP.

Goodluck hon!

It can happen to anyone. Anytime you use a credit card as a restaurant, a waiter can swipe it through something in his pocket and sell it for $50. Then they write it onto another card, go buy shit. That fucking easy. Some waits make an extra $5-10k a month doing this.. of course they can only do it for a little while before they have to go work somewhere else to do it.
