Yanks reportedly consider trading Posada for Big Unit(aka...pornstar2pac)
In order to rebuild a starting rotation that failed them in the playoffs, the Yankees have considered dealing All-Star catcher Jorge Posada to the Diamondbacks for ace Randy Johnson according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Citing someone close to organizational meetings in Florida last week, the newspaper reported Tuesday that Posada, who has spent his entire career in pinstripes, came under scrutiny because he is one of the few veteran Yankees whose contract does not include a no-trade clause. And with $173.15 million already tied up in 16 players for next season, a trade involving Posada may be one of the few ways the organization can afford to shore up its pitching staff. "It would have to be a major, major deal," the unidentified official told the Star-Ledger. "But Posada does give (the Yankees) some flexibility." Johnson has one year and $17 million remaining on his contract with Arizona. The team hasn't decided whether to trade their dominant lefty or ink him to an extension. "You certainly want to look at the ballclub and make sure we have the right mix of veterans and younger players," Ken Kendrick, one Arizona's controlling owners, said at a news conference. "And we certainly hope Randy will be among them. Nobody is able to take his place. I think we all know that." Another possibility reportedly under discussion was sending Posada to the A's as part of a deal for starter Tim Hudson. That would rid Oakland of the right-hander's $6 million salary for 2005, assuming the team chooses to break up its pitching trifecta of Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito. A stumbling block to the deal, however, is that Posada is guaranteed $29.5 million in salary over the next two years. That is probably too big a burden for Oakland to shoulder alone. So for Posada to go to the A's, the Yankees would still have to pay a large part of his salary, the Star-Ledger said.

Who is gonna catch then? I really doubt that Jorge will be traded. I read the article in the & the thought of seeing Varitek in pinstripes makes me sick to my stomach.
I would think that the Bombers will find a way to make a trade with a team that has some good pitching prospects, then in a 3way deal, be able to aquire Johnson with out having to get rid of one of the few yankees left from the early days of this dynasty. Also, I am still having a hard time dealing with the collapse during the ALCS, but remembering that untill 1995, there was no wildcard in baseball, at least for a moment made me feel a little better. The record book should read like this: 1918 - Red Sox win WS 2004 - Red Sox win WS** **1995 rule change allows for wildcard, so baseballs rules were changed & the SUX finally got the monkey off thier back! 2005 - The Empire Strikes Back! - Nomar @ 2nd & R.Johnson to teach Schilling a lesson!

I was listening to the radio and they talked about it but said it probably wouldn't happen.
And yes, they mentioned how they'd pay Varitek ALOT of money.

If they do that though, they probably would only be able to pay for 3 major players after that...probably two key pitchers and a second baseman (Nomar is still being talked about).
