Where The Democrats Went Wrong

The Democrats continue to cater to the far left of the party, a part of the party they will always have. States like California, Washington, Oregon, and New York will always do a straight ticket for Democrats.

They continue to push the middle of the road Americans over the edge with issues of Partial Birth Abortion, Gay Marriage, and various other hot button topics. All of these issues introduced by the Democrats, and used by the Republicans to demonstrate to the American that the Democrats are tools of Satan.

They do not fully grasp the concept yet, that when you throw issues like these in front of normal American people and try to cram it down their throat they will resist and resist hard.

During a time of great fear in the USA, that is being preyed upon by both sides, they decide it is their civic duty to throw issues out that only energize the radical side of the party, and alienate 'normal folk'.

If the Democrats do not start doing some soul searching, they are going to be a relic of the past. They had their ass handed to them in the election two years ago, and last night they again lost seats and made a failed bid for the presidency.

This is not a pro-Republican rant, this is merely an observation of a party going in the wrong direction. That, at this rate, will slowly die away.

I suggest that those who're against gay marriage do some soul searching.

You are an idiot if you believe that.

The Democrats fucked up by nominating Kerry, just like Gore fucked up by having Lieberman as a running mate. It is a given that if a yankee wants to win the presidency he needs a southern running mate, yet Kerry picks someone that can't even carry his own state. That wasn't very good thinking.

If anything, this election affirmed the results of 2000.

Walk down the street and talk to most Americans. You will get a break down of opinions that coincide with the results last night.

If the voting machines are used as the crutch, and people keep on living in 2000, nothing will change and my previous statements will become hard facts.

If the Democrats do not come to the conclusion that they are not on point on the important issues, their numbers in power will continue to dwindle.

I disagree. They are being fucking pussies and dilluting their message and not challenging Bush and calling this administration out on their lies. There is enough proof to prosecute this government for treason, and that's more than enough to win an election. But they listen to bullshit polls of people who don't really know what they want, and tell the pollsters what sounds nice, vs. what would really win. When the people don't know what they need to know, you can't just ask them - you have to lead and educate. And, yeah, that's hard. The republicans tricked the democrats into playing by nonsense rules they set up. How the hell do you explain to the american people how badly GW has fucked us, while still trying to sound "optimistic". America needs a wake-up call and Kerry failed to take the risks of challenging (mistaken) beliefs and telling people unpopular truths. That was the difference between him and Howard Dean - and the disparity between the energy of support.

You are demonstrating clearly where the Democrats are messing up.

The blame game.

If the Democrats are seen as the whiny bitches that are obstructionists and finger pointers, they will be destroyed.

Look at Tom Daschle. He is a whiny Queen who offers no solutions, just finger pointing and crying. He was eliminated. Everytime the guy was on TV he was crying and just came off as a complete waste of time.

You have two rich white men. Both of whom lie. The first says to look at his record and vote for him. The second says to vote from him because he's not the first guy and he'll do things better. People chose to go with the first guy because the evil you know is better than the evil you don't.

You do not need to be optimistic, but you need to offer solutions, and not just come off as a whiner group of people who are not presenting solutions.

Even at this point does anyone know exactly where Kerry stood on Iraq? He would, "Work with our friends and allies to get more participation". Okay, how about backing that up with substance. It sounds great, but as with most things they have been offering up lately it is sound bites with no real discussion of what they would do.

This all falls back to offering no solutions and sticking with issues that really do not concern the average American.

I would agree with you on Dean. He knew where he stood and was not afraid to talk about it (that is what pepople want). He was harsh on all of his opponents and would have energized people. He was eliminated in favor of a candidate 'that could win'. Republicans did this with Bob Dole and learned from their mistake. The Democrats should have learned with Gore/Lieberman. Gore was a 3 time loser, who chose a running mate that alienated the Red states.

There is a pattern forming, that they clearly have no desire to break.

A senator rarely wins the presidency. The last one to do was Kennedy I believe.

Reagan - Gov.
Bush Sr. - VP
Clinton - Gov.
Bush Jr. - Gov

The democrats need to come up with a better candidate and preferably one the south can somewhat associate with.

Far left ha ha Kerry is DLC right wing. The far left of the democrats want to impeach Bush, legalize marijuana, pull the troops out of Iraq now, legallize gay marriage, a living wage, cancle Nafta & wto, media reform "more freedom",. Does that look like Kerry's beliefs?.

I disagree. The democrats, especially Kerry, fucked up by running a negative campaign. Kerry almost never talked about himself as a candidate, but instead spent almost all of his time talking about what a fucked up president Bush is. He's appealing to the "anybody but Bush" crowd, but he already had their vote. Mud-slingers aren't popular, and that's all Kerry was.

I disagree with you, the democrats have been doing that, they've been doing too much of that instead of talking about what they want to do. Kerry spent all of his time talking about how fucked up Bush is instead of talking about himself as a candidate.

i totally agree with you. And they are continuing to do it even in defeat. Blame blame blame, point point point.

Whiny crybabies.

It's certainly not a surprise to me or many others why they lost.

I have to agree with you here. Especially with that conspiracy theory garbage he rolled out just before the election, which was called Farenheit 9/11. He was simply preaching to the choir with that film, everyone else thought he was a fuckin nutcase.

Jefferson believed that ordinary people, being well informed and engaging in open discussion, would provide the answers to the nation's challenges. Instead we have ignorance and closed minds. We have moved beyond sound-byte politics to hot button politics, which in the nature of people means the politics of intolerance.

The situation now isn't much different from one sponsor offering an unreasonably high level of payment and the others needing to follow suit. Then they need to find a way to pay the bill: welcome shaving, pre-marked cross-sells, etc.

The problem for any centrist party (it's a joke to call the Democrats left wing) is its extremely limited ability even to play this game, let alone win. By definition, hot button politics only works for extremists with emotive messages to deliver. It's the political style of Goebels and the mullahs of radical Islam. There is no medium through which to communicate more complex messages to which people don't want listen anyway.

We are entering the same situation that the UK faced when Margaret Thatcher was in power. The Democrats cannot win an election in current circumstances. Instead, the Republicans will keep introducing ever more radical legislation and go on working for ever more narrow interests, until ultimately they defeat themselves. It's a very painful process from which the country never really recovers.
