MELON.com - Domain Feedback. Adult? Mainstream?
I own Melon.com and have been getting a few offers from adult webmasters and mainstream companies. I'm curious what some of you think regarding it's potential for Adult vs. Mainstream, and it's possible worth.
(not looking to sell because it's already in play) I noticed a few adult sites out there like: http://MELONhunter.com http://MELONS.com (Nat'l A-1) but my original intent when purchasing it this year was to create a brand like http://www.APPLE.com or http://www.ORANGE.com and since the word MELON is recognized globally (especially in ASIA), I thought it was perfect for my mainstream venture. But I've had offers ranging from Melon Farmers, Headwear/Helmet Companies, IQ Testing Firms, startup search engines, and I believe offers from the financial giant http://www.Mellon.com So do you Domainers/GFYers think it's great for ADULT? or Mainstream? and what do you believe it's worth? I'm sure I'll get lots of help here and plenty of posts with ![]() ![]() post here or email me: sponsorcash [ at ] mail.com Thanks in advance. |

Not that my opinion matters but here are my thoughts.
Melon - In the singular I do not think it would be all that viable as an adult site. I would not think that a site with the singular version of TIT would not be as viable as TITS unless you were planning some wierd one boob type site. For a mainstream site it has lots of possibilities. The word is very brandable. I am not sure how much it would be worth as an agricultural site as I have a couple gardening type sites but they do not make much money. I am not sure of the offers you have but I would expect it to go in the 5-6 figure market as most other brandable dictionary words. Again this is just my ![]() |

hell yeah on the mainstream note...you got me thinking with that apple and orange thing...someone in mainstream could base an entire coorporation around that single domain....
and adult company would just make another paysite |

MELON was the "codename" for our project when we were shopping the concept around. we had a backup name just in case. In fact, M.E.L.O.N. actually stood for something but left us plenty of room to offer diverse products & services in the future. |

I have had some gardening type sites and they are profitable but not really that worth it for a domain such as Melon.com. OFF TOPIC: For some reason in reading this thread I can not help but think of Rodney Dangerfield in Back To School. ![]() (In case you did not see the movie: Rodney goes back to school to keep his son from quitting. His last name is Melon. Lots of laughs and don't forget the Triple Lindy.) |

I honestly think it will pull in more money if you take it mainstream.
If you sell it to an adult company, it will be just one of hundreds of domains in their portfolio. If you sell it to a mainstream company, it will probably become their flagship domain and therefore will be much more valuable to them. ![]() |

You can make a Rodney Dangerfield tribute site.
If you wanted to go adult I'd suggest a site of guys fucking melons. If you use that i want a cut. ![]()

Good grab Taboo.
Knowing you and the fact you're not a hawker like me, I'd say you could get $50k-ish from melon people, lol. GL. ![]() |
