Haven't used 'em, but I'd be wary. Sounds like discount bandwidth. Looks like they have racks with above.net

Actually, Cogent bandwidth is very good these days. I haven't heard of above.net myself. Personally, any middleman offering 10MB including the server for $499 sounds like a too good to be true offer.

Then again I deal only with ultra premium bandwidth...

They are ok.
They wont do much for you by way of management or hands on admin work,
best to host with a company like SplitInfinity or Serverprovider for that.
Otherwise, they are ok network wise.
I know people who use them and they have no complaints.
But they wont lift a finger to touch your servers from what I hear.
Oh, correction, they can refer you to a contractor to do that....

How much bandwidth do you actually need?

Your prices seem to be more on the mark. I don't care how much bandwidth xxxhost buys in bulk, I just can't see 10mb plus a server for $299 month...

Why not?
3000gigs for $300 is a more than reasonable price.

Non-Cogent. Top Quality Bandwidth
Fully managed same great support.

The big deal about it being a SCSI, other than it being a faster drive, is... ??

SCSI has come down to pretty much the same pricing as IDE/SATA.

Everyones used to whored out, oversold hosts and assumes we get:

power, space, racks, switches, routers, spare parts, onsite techs, desks, workstations, billing software, support software, bandwidth, components for the switches and routers (theyre extra), spare parts for each of the parts above, knowledgable staff in every area you offer (IE: bgp, internal switching, customer relations, *bsd sys admin, linux sys admin, windows sys admin, etc).

Thats all BEFORE having money left over to pay for the actual server itself...

I've got one server with Reflected which I've had since Febuary and it's been running flawless, never having one problem with it. The content on the server is always fast. I thought that they only used Tier1 quality, I could be wrong though.

Another great host is C H O O P A.com I have 2 servers with them and have been with them for about 6 years now. People always comment on how fast my sites are and their SUPER people to deal with. Maybe hit them up and see what they can offer you. I know that they're pretty competative.

you make it seem as if the pricing is cheap for it having a SCSI drive, thats what I was getting at.

I was told the story a while ago from one of the hahahahahaha people, but I'm not sure if I recall it exactly to tell it. It was something pretty simple where Lensman got pissed off over something and banned the name, it's nothing drastic that hahahahahaha has done.

yadda yadda, some of the crap here is pretty unbelievable knowing who it's coming from.

We are hosted in the Equinix facility, and have our own cage. We are also multihomed to 4 carriers at the moment, abovenet being one of them. This is easily confirmable by using various tools around the 'net. Our network is deployed in a fully redundant fashion, and we have not had a global network event since last December that effected any large portion of our customer base. I welcome anyone who likes to come hang out in Chicago with me, and I'll give you a personal tour of our setup.

The server is fully managed. Meaning, you never have to worry about anything. You simply upload your content and we handle the rest. About the only thing we won't do, are complex custom script installations/configurations - which is par for the course. All in all, our tech group is pretty reasonable when it comes to "custom" needs. This is in comparison to many places selling "managed" servers by handing you off a box w/ cpanel or whatnot and letting you go to town, with them only checking things out when you call to complain. We don't call that managed, but some people may prefer it. We're not for everyone, and we make no attempt to position ourselves in that manner.

In any case, simply do a board search to check out our rep. We've taken care of our customers, and that should show through all of the bullshit. We do screw up, everyone does - but we also make it right when it happens.

Pathetic I feel the need to defend anything here. Sell things on your own merits - if you have to bash the competition using half truths, outright lies, and FUD you already are on the way out anyways.

peace,

-Phil

Btw,

props to Magg/Foundrynap for knowing their shit and not falling into the "tier1", lying about upstreams, etc. game like so many others do.

While I don't know what is talked about in private, at least the way you present yourself in public is proper. I havn't seen anything from you guys I could call out. Need more honest folks in this business.

peace,

-Phil

Props to you as well Phil, theres a lot of bashers here on gfy, but most of them have 0 experience with the company theyre bashing, and even more so have 0 experience with the field in which they proclaim knowledge in or know the full story. (whichever is applicable in the situation).
