We had pretty bad disk failiure :(

Yesterday, we had a prety bad disk failiure that corrupted the /web partition containing the user accounts. This is why you see apache default page.

We are working on getting the file system restored, with all the accounts back up and resume operations as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

David - sorry that I was that pissed last night, I've just had a couple of stressful days and that situation really blew my brains out

I talked to Tim and he explained everything to me in detail. I am sorry that your FAT blew up - I am sure you'll have everything up and running soon enough.

I'll be gone from tomorrow til the 12th, so I'll talk to you as soon as I get back.

David

if your gonna be in the freehosting industry man you may want to invest in Raid

this way it will automatically Back up your Site on a identical drive and if one drive goes down it switches over to the good drive automatically

This is a common mistake. A RAID system is not a backup, it's a mirror.
RAID is designed to protect against hardware failures and provide better performance but if there is a problem with the FAT (due to a bug or a virus or something else) it will effect the entire RAID array since Drive B will be a mirror of a bad Drive A.

RAID or no RAID, regualr back ups should be done.

If it was simply a bad disk error as wizdom said then having RAID 1 setup even as a mirror would work well. Disk corrupts, computer shuts down, reboots using other HDD, then just stick another HDD, it gets mirrored and you're set again. Of course if it is from something malicious then there are more likely problems, but they are less likely to happen than failures -- depending on who and how many people you piss off.

OH, I should add the server of mine which will be up Monday ready for hosting has RAID 1 configuration. (www.nysus.com)

Cheers
