there is a limit to how big those sites can grow - but 10-15,000 members ain't nuthin to sneeze at!

Very true.
We are converting well on www.paulmarkhamteens.com with TGP and bought traffic, 2 of our affiliated also do very well. But as I see it unless I spend a fortune enticing affiliates and give away 35%+ of my turn over it's never going to take off. Plus wiith affiliates I will have to spend hours looking after some of them.
We got a student working 20 hours a week, submitting by hand and Chameleon and signing up over 30 a week, and growing, with Chameleon and some partner accounts. Low figures but we are newbies at traffic.
Now do I take on more guys full time, pay for spots and traffic and concentrate on making the site retain or put in a lot more work with affiliates, which will effect the business?
100 joins a day without affiliates, must be the same income as 200 a day with them, they can be expensive to get, keep and maintain.
I guess we will go the middle road and have our own traffic sources plus let affiliates join us if they want to and try to convert and retain their traffic.
