Is it morally acceptable to experiment on animals?

Is it morally acceptable to experiment on animals to develop products and medicines that benefit human beings?

Agreed.

I actually go out of my way to buy products not tested on animals even though they cost a bit more

Unfortunately, the majority of people feel it is better to sacrifice animals for the sake of humans.

I don't think this opinion will be changing anytime soon.

Most animal experimentation is dramatically better regulated now and things have gotten better. The US government, primarily our military, still conducts gruesome and horrific biowarfare WMD experiments at Ft. Meade on animals including intelligent primates, dogs, and cats.

More and more companies are using computer models thankfully, however many chemicals are still tested on animals prior to their commercial introduction. Rats and Rabbits get the worst tests, often having chemicals inserted into their eyes, on their skin, and into their stomachs to test toxicity levels.

Is it morally acceptable? No.

i am a animal lover, but i agree that sometimes is necessary, i am totally agains testing skin products and shampoo and stuff like that on animals, but in cases like cancer research and aids research i agree with that, i rather have a rat dead than my mother.

Who gives a shit about morals?
Actually I'd prefer they not bother developing anything unless it directly can help me. Forget the rest of you losers, I could care less if you die.

No, it's not morally acceptable, but it's better then the alternative, which is not doing these tests. Not doing these tests would result in medical progress almost completely halting. Millions of lives have been saved just from insulin treatments that were developed through animal testing. It's a rotten deal, but it's better to do animal testing then not to.
