Do you avoid bragging?

Every feel like you repulse people around you when you brag about something?

I think that kind of reaction is childish. I think bragging should motivate others, not make them hate you.

Am I right or am I right?

I subtly brag about some things, but not about other things (like earnings). The latter tends to attract the wrong kind of attention and draws false relations.

I never brag, in fact, I think I am the best in the entire world at not bragging. If there was a Nobel Prize for not bragging, I would surely win it. People look up to and praise me since I don't brag.

Best form of bragging is through your actions, how you treat other people, handle situations and how you live your life. I have more respect for people who don't brag about their accomplishments and are secure in who they are.

Bragging is just amplifying one area to make up for the lacking areas.

As far as bragging goes, is it bragging if I say that I don't like to brag?

I thought it was Satchel Paige who said that. Oh well.

Bragging is something that one has to do in a subtle way. You should demonstrate that you are superior, but you should never say it.

Yes, the GFY hypocrites are out in force as usual. Funny thing is most people call it bragging when you talk about something positive that you are excited about.

It was quoting me. That's why I asked instead of assuming.

Here is a better question, ever feel that when you talk about your business, that your friends who have real jobs get jealous?

I feel like to an extent they are interested, but when it goes into details, the envy just takes over.

Bragging is annoying. I have a friend who use to brag ALL the time. He grew up with nothing and now that he is doing good for himself he feels he needs to let every one know. When he first got his Lexus, every one he met or every party we were at he always figured out a way to let them know he has a lexus. He talks about all the bonuses he gets at his job and all that. I had to tell him first of all NO ONE unless it's your spouse should know how much money you make it's not their business. You dont have to talk, just let your actions show. People see how you live and your posessions and they kinda figure it out. If you need to need to tell people you have these things in order to feel accepted, you need to work on yourself from the inside. Not to mention people start to get jealous if you brag to much so they start plotting on ways to get YOUR money into THEIR pocket. Money looks better when it's invisible, no need to floss.

He's calmed down quit a bit now.

My situation is very similar - I grew up with absolutely nothing. Well actually, many of the essentials. Food, decent clothes, even had video game system, etc. Things weren't "that bad" in regard to materialistic objects. I had my share of toys. BUT - It was in the dirtiest, grimiest New Jersey housing project around. Roaches in my cereal, etc. I mean, talk about not having a chance, I was a born loser. No father, mom on welfare/sharing apartment with my grandmother, to a mother with a drug problem (who eventually died from it).

From there, it escalated - Bad in school, bad attitude (which I carry to this day), etc - I dropped out, got my own place at 16. The typical knucklehead, attempting to go against the system. But, throughout all this - I always had the presence of mind, to know, I had something inside. A determination that would allow me to eventually, one day, find my niche - And exploit it. Sure enough it happend - It wasn't as easy as "hey submit galleries", "start a TGP". My road to (semi) riches was a lot more complicated. Involved no adult, and mostly mainstream (web development/acquisitions/sales) - Work my way from the bottom, save every dollar, and continually reinvest in myself.

Point being I was doubted by everyone, family and teachers. When you've nothing, and the odds are stacked countlessly against you? You've one goal in this world. Not the lexus, not the mansion. It extends emotionally, much further. To prove everyone who doubted you wrong. And when you do? It is so fucking refreshing, to look back in retrospect, on what you lacked. Hereinafter, what you've achieved. The satisaction/genuine gratification that subdues your body is unexplainable.

So what I could have said in a few sentences is - You cannot blame a man, for dwelling on his fruits of labor. He worked hard, and made something out of nothing. Expression is one of the few luxuries we all share.
