And for the people that don't understand how it can already be making 4 figs a day you don't know how the corporate advertising world works.

I have to catch up on my phone calls. I'll be back later if anyone wants to ask serious business questions instead of the ones designed to create post views using my name.
Thanks to those that DO understand these kinds of deals. |
KRL ROCKS

Most of the dot com bombs were pretty nice domains too. I think that era showed that sites with any overhead that make their money soley from advertising is a disaster. So it will be interesting how it plays out.

difference between brag and bullshit though, people love calling out bullshitters, cause its easy if you know the business. - about your corporate MAINSTREAM sponsorships YOU HAVE NONE RIGHT NOW on your site, stop dreaming and start getting some until you start talking about corporate MAINSTREAM sponsorships. Of course we understand they don't care about direct results but their overall branding plan which is why they will overpay for ads. |

My business is taken care of, you don't have to worry about my business :D http://www.men.com/ Wheres your corporate already sold sponsors? sportsbetting your corporate advertiser? Probably paying you on per player. Thats no corporate advertiser to me. We talking about future "maybe I'll buy some sponsorship on men.com in december" qualify leads? If you are going to talk about business, at least talk about the business you have settled not about future "maybe" business :D I saw no coke bottles, I saw no Jessica parker dancing on your site with gap ads, I see no old navys ugly shirts on your site, I see no crest advertising their brite white on your site. Hidden methods of Money making for sure. You advertising them in your sig or something? |
OK, you guys are driving me nuts now.
Look the formula is very simple. You acquire a nice mainstream online property. You develop it into something that has broad mainstream appeal. You sell corporate advertisers which is where the big money is. You market it on TV, print, radio and other high visibility media outlets for several years. You get the attention of the huge companies that need to acquire top properties to keep their companies names in the news and ahead of their competition. You do a merger and get a chunk of a prime publicly traded stock. You go on to your next adventure. That's it. 1 2 3 and not rocket science by any means. |

BradM - murray_dawg - one thing is funny - namely that you also seem to know everything.
KRL is it's own league, but why do YOU also portrait yourself always above all GFY'ers? You can't know everything about business when you're 20. Everyone here knows that I admire KRL, so I don't mind that you try to "defend" him here, but I really wonder why do you always portrait yourself as someone who knows and achieved everything. This is just a serious question, no name calling. |

Go call any adult mag for example right now and see what issue they will sell you advertsing in and then post it back here. I'm not trying to be a dick with you. But I've been on the buying end of the ad game for a long time. I never liked paying for ads so far in advance, but you have to if you want to lock in good spots. Now I'm on the selling end of the ad game. And I can see clearly and have learned the techniques guys like Larry Flynt, Hefner, and the others used to make money from the publishing business. |

Because I was working full time for a MASSIVE mainstream company at age 15, which I helped grow from 7 employees to over 40 when I left 2 years ago. I have a glowing letter of recommendation and am highly regarded at that company for my efforts. My ego is huge in that regard. I KNOW what I am talking about when it comes to mainstream advertising. I am amazed that people HERE are arguing about mainstream advertising when they have NO clue what they are talking about. |

Geezus, and fire your employees and get some new ones, I could have had that site up within 3 months completely written with custom articles like askmen.com if it was such a big prioriy/business like you said it is. your "off by far" project scheduling : "men.com will be up and running by febuary 2004 or something" makes me wonder what kind of disfunctional operation you running there! |

Just want to add PA that if I come off like a braggard EVER that is not my intention. I'm just a regular hard working businessman. Nothing special. I've had ups and I've had downs. Things I made a lot of money on and things I lost a lot of money on. I don't know why people seem to idolize me. I don't want it at all. There are way bigger guys in the domain biz then me. So everyone should go idolize them. Some of these big players have tens of thousands of domains. I just try to offer advice and wisdom to you guys, cause I've been through the trenches. I've learned a lot the hard way from being in a pioneering spot often with new trends. I believe in giving back and helping others achieve. Some people I've helped over the years have surpassed me. That's awesome to me. I love seeing young guys reaching incredible heights. So use me, but damn don't abuse me. And again if I come off like a showoff or a braggard, fuck , I am truly sorry. That is the very last way I would want anyone here to think of me. |
I can also say that I just made 10k by buying a 1k domain that was valued inappropriately by the seller, when talking about future type-in earnings.
|
Some years ago i would say bs, but now I see it from a different perspective. You can't accurate estimate the income of any site with simple formulas like clicks over sponsor etc
There are many factors involved and different business models that you'll keep discovering through years. |

I think you're great Kev, you are always willing to give advice and shoot the shit (when you have time) and in my opinion you don't come off bragging, but that's because I've spoken with you extensively...I can see how other people would view it as such though, some of the time. They just have to get to know *you* |
