My domain registar stole 2 of our domains

I was so mad!! Our company bought 20 domains last week. We then get an email from them to day saying that when we purchased them, that their database was messed up at the time, and two of the domains that we bougt we already sold. We went over to see who owned them, and the company that we used for registar is the registered owner of them. I have gotten screen captures of both them registering it the day after we purchased them, and also showing that the domiains are still being parked with them.
I also contacted I-Cann. We have already made logos, and banners, and sites for these domiains.

Anyone else know what else to do for domain theft?

Yeah our company is talking about it. It seems that we do have a case, considering we do have all the proof!

What are the domains ?

Just my , i think it'd be easy for you to prove that they did infact register them but pretty much impossible to prove that their system didn't really mess up =)

I don't know how that regstar works but maybe the reason the registered owners info is theirs is because the person registered domain through them and asked for privacy on the domain.

just a thought

I just got an email from them. They say that even though we purchased them on the 11th that they didnt try to register them till the 15th. Which means someon took them in the mean time. Well If I purchased them on the 11th they should have been registerd to me on teh 11th.

Unasked for advice: Move all of your domains away from them ASAP.

I say that based on nothing more than the apparent failures (incompetence? alleged theft?) posted in this thread alone.

I would sue them.
The problem is, your case will be based on being able to prove the potential value of each domain thus establishing the speculative loss.

If you sue, have as acredited a domain appraiser as you can find appraise the domains to help your case.

But, someone needs to take a stand for all the little people things like this happen to and show these companies that continuing on with this act will cost them much more money in the long run.

Keep us posted!

How about punitive damages for unethical business practices? Plus they could lose their ICANN accreditation, I assume.

Check the whois and see if the registration was just slow and their system shitty so they came too late.

If the whois shows your or their informations you should file a complaint and threaten them with a lawsuite.

I use to use speedydomainregistration.com .. but then I realized that they looked dodgy, even the members area seemed a little off..

I then moved all my domains to registerfly.com I suggest you do the same, then take legal action, or call them or whatever.. you don't want them to terminate your account while they deal with this bullshit.

What a bunch of shit. Not much honesty left out there.

I will echo a lot of the other posts. Use well known respected registrars.

Ummm, why would you make screenshots of yourself registering domains?

Anyway its not proof enough for a valid case of any kind i am afraid.. did you use another whois lookup when you checked for availability on the two domains? because it does not seem too far fetched to me that there may have been something wrong with their procesing setup.

Sorry about your infortune, like KRL said unless these are top notch names worth fighting for you probably should just bite the bullet and find another registrar.

Why use anyone other than DirectNic? If the domain isnt going to earn the few more pennies a year that it would cost then just leave them where they are.

I am pretty sure they are one of the places that don't reg your name right away. They wait a day or 2 and send the domains somewhere else to actually be registered in bulk. So that gives them a chance to look over the domains and see if there are any that they would like to own.

who in their right mind would create site/logo for a domain which hasn't even been registered yet?
That was my thought exactly. That and taking screenshots seems kinda weird.

Yep, I had the exact same questions. There are so many decent cheap registrars, not sure why you wouldn't use one that registered your domain in real time.

The site was already registered. It was registered to us on the 11th then on the 12th they registered it to themselves. then on the 15th they told us what happened.

A of this morning , i had recieved an email form them saying it was a mistake, and they gave them back

The reason why I took screen shot was when I found out they took them I went over to the whois database, and took a screen shot of them having registered it to them selves. The whois database showed that they had registered it the day after we had. I had taken screenshots of that to prove it just incase they tried to change it on my when I contacted them.

I didnt have screenshots of my whois info on it. I had an email reciept showing that it was registerd to me on the 11th.

Does that make sense. If you think its weird to take screen shots showing that someone registered it to themselves the day after I purchased it , then you obviously dont know how to show proof that someone did something.
