Visa vs. Mastercard

In your experience, what percentage of surfers use a MC?

If a site only accepts MC and not Visa, there's obviously a detrimental effect, but to what degree? How many sales can one expect to be losing?

The dillema is that a program i use DOES accept visa, but not via CCBill for which the affiliate recieves credit.

Am i losing out bigtime, or is this a moot point?

You're losing out big time

Visa will make a site owner jump through all sorts of hoops before they process one single card. Yet, site owners do it. There's a reason for that.

The real question is, how many people would switch to Mastercard if they couldn't use their Visa for adult sites.

You know, people say they generate a lot more VISA signups than Mastercard, but this is when they are offering membership via both cards. I think if you just offered MC's, signups will still be pretty good (everyone I know has a Mastercard).

O.k. so getting back to the original question:

As an affiliate who can only gain a commision from visa users, how many sales can I expect to be losing?

anyone thinking about cutting out visa will have more success flipping burgers than being a webmaster.

I just ran the stats for the last few month. We have twice as many Visa transactions as MasterCard.

If the site you're promoting takes both Visa and Mastercard, but only pays you for Mastercard signups, you're losing a lot.

If the site only accepts Visa or MC, Visa sales will typically be twice as high as MC sales. So 67% of sales are Visa, 33% are MC. So chances are, you're losing around 67% of your potential income.

In short, if the program isn't paying you for Visa signups, stop sending them traffic. You're giving them free sales.

Thank you. That's what i figured. I think the sponsor did at one time, and then stopped for some reason. It's roughly around this time the whole 1:4000 thing started happening.

I used to work at a restaurant. When they switched over owners, the new owners had to get their own Visa and Mastercard. For the longest time, at least a month, we didn't have Visa and only Mastercard. Turns out, that's what a lot of people had, and not much else, if anything else. We had some very upset customers and sometimes we even had to pay their bill. Visa wins.

This is a very informative thread, thanks for all the replys. Surely this program owner is aware that his affiliates are getting screwed out of damn near 3/4 of their sales.

Nice guy, and a cool site to promote. Too bad.

Not on the boards, no. If you reeeeally need to know hit me at dave at dailyfunk.com

It's a very small ccbill sponsor, and I happen to like the guy and the site. I just don't think I can continue to send him traffic.

Most people USE VISA not MC. So the chances of this being a big problem are quite small.

That's just it. They sign up with visa, and the webmaster gets 100% of the sale.
