Obscure Christopher Reeve movies (he wasn't just Superman, you know)
The threads (all 2,461 of them) about Christopher Reeve's death got me to thinking about a couple of his lesser-known movies. Everyone keeps referring to Christopher Reeve as Superman and because of his portrayal of the Man of Steel, people tend to think he was just a beefcake and not much of an actor. In fact, he was a very talented actor and appeared in some really great movies. Check these out if you haven't seen them:
Deathtrap - This is my personal favorite Christopher Reeve movie. The plot is wickedly sinister and the movie has a lot of great twists to it. If you appreciate well-written dark humor, this is a movie you have to see. By way of hint, I'll say that you've never seen Michael Cane, Christopher Reeve or Dyan Cannon quite like this, before. Just thinking about this movie has me wanting to watch it. I think I will brew up some popcorn when I am through authoring this thread. Somewhere in Time - This is a romantic movie but, amazingly, it doesn't suck. For one thing, it throws time-travel into the mix. You can't go too far wrong with time travel. This is another movie that proves Reeve had versatility as an actor. You won't see anything of Superman in his interpretation of a playwright so captivated by a woman an an old photograph that he leaves his own world to find her. (Oddly, Reeve's character is a playwright in Deathtrap, too). Not that is matters in the grand scheme of things, but the man really was a talented actor and all of you people moping about "Superman" dying should expose yourself to some of his other work. "Somewhere In Time" is far, far from being some "obscure" Reeves movie. It is one of the highest rated love stories in years. The mix of story and music was totally awesome.
I don't remember Reeves for "Superman." His name means "Somewhere In Time!" |

Somewhere in Time: 3,437 Superman: 15,213 The Godfather: 104,295 It's clearly not a particularly well-known movie and that was my whole point: people miss the good stuff because they've never been told it exists. By the way, Deathtrap only has 1,596 votes and I think it's the best work Reeve ever did for commercial film. SpaceAce |

DeathTrap was a great movie. I own it on DVD. Also, Somewhere in Time was a great movie, too. I saw that one as a child and really liked it.

I think his best movie was street smart with Morgan Freeman. It got Morgan nominated for a academy award.

IMO, another great Reeve movie is "Noises Off..." also starring Caine. Comedy. Well-written. Never stopped laughing. You can find the DVD almost everywhere for under $7. maybe more $ now after his passing.

Yeah, both Somewhere In Time and Deathtrap are great movies and are in my collection. He was in quite a few movies but I think the reason he is characterized down to Superman is because it is the only movies of his that actually spans the generations by the popularity of the comic book series. He was a great actor and I know they are making another Superman movie, but I think it is gonna be hard to pull of, Reeves was 6'4", not many actors out there I know will be able to fill those shoes.
