TOKYO Japanese authorities say the deaths of seven people near Tokyo are being investigated as a group suicide.

The young men and women were found dead early Tuesday in a parked car. A friend who received an e-mail hinting at suicide called police but they failed to reach the car in time. Media reports say the victims died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Dozens of Web forums for trading information and advice on suicide have emerged in Japan in recent years. There have been several cases of groups of people committing suicide, after meeting one another on the Internet.

Suicide rates in Japan are among the highest in the world.
