2257 Conspiracy Theory

Even with the lead Bush has ? the race is still tight. They pushed a ruling on the 2257 issue ?at least 90 days back? from what I heard. That being said, it will be till after the election before any action is taken. Everything in the country is about politics right now. Here are some examples:

Bush let Clinton?s assault weapons ban expire to appease the NRA, even though it was a bad idea.

Cheney waffled some on the party hard-line on gay marriage in the debates to win some gay support.

By these same token, Bush will not prosecute the adult industry till AFTER he wins the next election. Could you imaging the fallout, not only from the adult community but also the public in general, for sending people to prison of paperwork violations? It would have him look like the rightwing nut-job! Which he is! He will also lose him the support he seems to enjoy from some people in this industry for some mysterious reason.

However, after the next election, Bush will be a lame duck, so he will have four years to push his conservative agenda down our throats. He can?t get elected again, so who cares? Give Bush 4 more years and he will be ten times as dangerous as he is now and there will be a lot of people in this industry bound for Club Fed.

Vote Kerry and take out the trash before the trash takes us out!

I've heard that rumor as well. I also think that the Bush campaign wants to give people that impression because Asshat is so unpopular. Hinting that the AG may be gone might help the campaign, but I doubt you will see Johny removed next year.

Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is politicly motivated right now, but as soon as Bush gets 4 years he's gonna bait-and-switch. Doing anything too over-the-top now would cost him the election.

Just for the people that wonder - I am niether liberal nor a democrat. I would gladly vote Rebublican if they had someone I could trust. Bush is not the guy for the job. The past 4 years should be evidence of this.

There is the possibility of a pushback. But there's also the possibility of an October surprise, being the war against porn, if Bush gets behind in the numbers.

It's also a bad idea to talk about something you've heard summed up in the media -- the assault weapon ban was only restrictions on 'cosmetic' issues of an assault weapon, banning combinations of elements like:
pistol grip, telescopic stock, bayonet fitting, suppressor threading.

if you think that somehow a weapon is more deadly if it is an M-16/A2 rifle with a telescopic stock, or one with a solid stock, or it has a bayonet holder, or suppressor fitting please stop reading.

If that wasn't stupid enough, you could still purchase a weapon that had combinations of the above elements legally, if it was made before the ban date.

so to recap, the assault weapon ban was in reality a ban on how a weapon could, or couldn't look? feel safer?

Good point on the weapons ban. But did you notice that not many of the public know that.

They just think that Bush has given back the right to have assault weapons.

I agree with you completely xxxjay, except for the part about the Bush lead. What lead? Today's AP poll said Kerry's in the lead.

The word on the street is that AK 47's were banned before and now they're legal, is that incorrect?

I actually knew that there is a technical arguement about the cosmetic thing, but WFT do people really need automatic weapons anyway? I think they all should be banned. Guns suck.

Regardless of weather it was cosmetic or not - it is still was a political move.

You're confusing the issues - an assault weapon is not classified as an automatic weapon, it is still illegal in the United States to own a automatic weapon without a special type of license. It also illegal to have flash suppressors and suppressors (commonly called silencers) the assault weapon ban affected semi-automatic rifles.

Negative, only if they possessed some of the characteristics of the above :
they already had a pistol grip, so bayonet fitting, and a collapsing stock made it illegal - even then like I said if you were serious you could buy a pre-ban weapon, and if you were really serious you could buy one of the street from a shady guy modified to automatic.

I would feel safer tomorrow if instead of a law banning a stock/muzzle change, they would ban the sale of modification kits for weapons (you can buy out of the back of magazines) and for gun makers to be forced to make tamper proof weapons that couldn't be converted, or the loop holes closed on gun shows etc.

One flaw of the original ban is it banned my weapons by name. The gun makers just changed the names of the guns and continued making pretty much the same weapons, but - like I said - guns suck.

This has gone totally off topic.

Does anyone else agree that this 2257 delay is election realated?

Yes, I have a felony on my record - no big deal and it was a long time ago. That does not stop me from being concerned about the state of the country and this industry.

Fuck a felony anyway - I think people should have to pass an IQ test to vote.
