Most PC shops will stock USB cradle that you can plug a hard drive into. They work out about $70 in the UK so should be a similar price where you are.

Not quite

Actual price in pounds when I looked a couple of weeks back was around £40. That was from a high st shop though so probably much cheaper online

what exactly are your PC's symptoms? Also, what are the specs (ie. motherboard type, processor type, computer manufacture ect..)

drive enclosure
As far as im concerned this is the best drive enclosure on the market - never had a problem with it. you may be able to get one in order to pull some info off the pc's drive

it would hook up to anything with a usb slot on it, and it works damn good

how long ago did you buy it, and are there any system beeps when you turn it on. also, when it went down, how did it happen?
even with a bad harddrive, dos information should still come on the screen.

I was thinking much the same. Sounding more like M.Board or CPU type problem than the HD

more than likely. You can get a cheaper version of the drive enclosure i mentioned earlier (only 30$), and if you need info off that drive i would say its your best bet. its worthwhile to have anyway, comes in handy.

ouch, I had the same problem with my hard disk 2 month ago. It was like the disk was running in a loop.
I hope you have copy of your disk.

Have to agree. Invaluable things especially if upgrading to a bigger drive. I've been tempted to use one for an additional drive for data but keep wondering how long it'll last switched on all day every day. I suppose it should be OK in theory.

I paid under £20 for my USB laptop/pc hookup, after rescuing everything I paid around £70 for a spare hard drive to be installed.

combined with a good seagate drive, you will not be dissapointed. Had one for months and the only issue i had was with a shitty drive that had already failed and crashed once. theres a shitload of other enclosures out there, but many of them have errors due to incompatable USB chipsets, so be wary if you decide on an alternative.

I'm leaning towards a cpu problem. Cpu fans still working? AMD's do not shut down when they get too hot like Pentiums.

I dont know really...screen shows black and it just wont boot up. It gets stuck before the actual boot. Just nothing happens. Fans seem to work.
