I never finished school ...
... yet by the age of 19 I had 26 people working for me.
- I bought my first porsche when I was 20 - I made my first million when I was 22 (not dollars, german marks). - I lost it all when I turned 25 - Found the internet in 96' and made more than ever. ... never ever lost anything again since !!! |

You don't need school if you're going in biz for yourself.
Congratulations on your success. There's nothing wrong with a few failures either. Its all part of the game. Its impossible to win every hand. You're going to have some huge years where you do incredible and some years where everything goes wrong no matter what you do and you lose part of your wealth. What's worked for me is to diversify and always having some high risk high return deals. Those don't always work, but when they do they make you stupendous returns to fill the kitty up nicely and cover your dog deals. If you get 1 big winner out of every 10 deals you get into, you'll do fine in life. The hardest thing is making a lot of money at a young age. You really have to keep your feet firmly on the ground and not let it get the best of you and become an ego maniac. This happens to a lot of successful guys and then they think everything they touch will turn to gold and it doesn't work that way. Next thing you know you're living big and your biz went south and your upside down financially. You have to have the fortitude to find yourself again and do it again. Most guys can. Its all about persistence.

Congratulations on your success, and hope you luck on your future endeavors.
If you can quite possibly keep this up until retirement, you my friend, have unparalleled preserverance. I for one, couldn't work in solitude on the web until retirement. Finding a stable mainstream job is pretty difficult without a college degree. |

I honestly think it is, if you find something you can yourself dedicate to you don't need anyone to tell you how things work, you'll figure it all out by yourself. dedecation is the best education there is. |

this thread means a lot to me - ive found it hard to keep at what i really know and love and want to do with my parents telling me i should go to college but to me their logic doesnt make any sense- how will i be better off with a degree at this point? sure i could use it to get a nice paying 9-5 working for someone else but why the fuck would i wanna work for somebody else?! if i ever go back to school it will be to study and learn about something im interested in not to earn a degree.

In the information age you are never finished "school" - ever.
When I ran my "internet" business I would sit at the board room table and ask some very basic questions that the University grads could not answer ... Like ... okay you're proposing using Java 1.0 using [??????] but it is not supported by the current version of Netscape... and only Explorer ...what percentage of your current 150 staff are using Netscape??? aaaaah ....all !! so you have 150 installs of Explorer to do???? |

It depends what your goals are in life but university, is essential for some professions. I never completed 9th grade, played truant a lot, and went on to make a fortune selling off a market stall, then selling office furniture and now selling porn. I think above all I'm a salesman before anything else. |

congrats man, it's always nice to hear stories of people making themselves successful... on the other hand, i just talked to my advisor and found out i only need 10 credits to get my bachelors, it's bittersweet... 4 years of college really flies by.
