Anyone else over 20 slightly disturbed by Bobby Brown songs being covered

Ms. Spears is on my tv doing My Perogetive at the moment...something not right about that song EVER being covered by anyone in any serious manner.

oh feck the next song is some new club version of Hungry Eyes...this industry is dead.

What scares me more is that songs I rocked to in High school (early 80's) are now in the mix on "classic rock" stations

It's been a sad trend for a few years though - classics getting badly covered and hitting the charts. You sit there and wonder why the hell they bothered especially when the 'new' version sounds so similar (but never quite as good) as the original.

The worst cover I've heard in recent years was the dance type remix of a Floyd track. That was just scary.

Something else I find more disturbing, is the cover of Cameo's song by Korn - 'word up' C'mawwwwwn.

I think Brit's doing it cuz of the whole getting married and shit, the title of the song is only fitting, still no excuse tho...has she written any of her music?

I think people are missing the point of why she did the song. She did not do it cause she's running out of fresh ideas (she's got a team around her , that will never happen). She did it to give a message.......GET OUT OF MY FUCKING BUSINESS AND LEAVE ME ALONE, IT'S MY PEROGATIVE. That's the point of the song. I think it's dope that she did it and i feel her frustration. When you're a celebrity your life is a fish bowl and every little detail is blown up 10 times bigger than it is. It kinda sucks. Then people say - "oh well you knew that was gonna happen when you got into the industry". This may be true but that does not make it right. Not to mention if music is what you love to do and it's all you know - you're kinda stuck. Then they say "oh well she has money that should make it better"...No amount of money can make up for youe piece of mind. You can be Bill Gates rich, but if you're on the verge of going crazy it does not matter. Cut Britney some slack people, she's just a normal human being trying to make it thru life just like the rest of us. No one is perfect and we all do dumb shit sometimes, it's just that no one has a bull horn announcing our mess-ups to the world.

The "I dont recommend anything in my signature" tag is nice. Very funny. I'm not here to spam or try to send you guys to some business venture of mine. I do buy and sell traffic but i'm here because this place is interesting. Once there was "i wandered here by accident" or something along those lines next to my name. Thats a negative also, i've known about this board for some years now. I just recently decided to jump in and add my 2 cents here and there. Maybe i'm to out spoken, sometimes my opinion may not be warranted but i see some really crazy things in here some times so I say what i think. As long as the moderator is having fun changing the tag under my name, i guess that's all that counts right.

It's the same for everyone, it changes automatically as your post count changes. And, WTF? What a weird post to bump a day old thread about music with.

I recently saw a documentary on them.
One of the guys was so ashamed that he had tried to commit suicide.

Sad thing that the real Milli Vanilli voices never became famous.

I was going to ask if you knew what became of the real singers. Suicide is a bit strong. I'd simply go live in a cave in a remote part of the world and shun all human contact were that me.

okay

#1 the song sucked balls the first time around

#2 she deserved to have her vocal chords ripped out when she covered I Love Rock and Roll (which I know was a cover in the first place).

#4 Please, she needs the press like puppy needs its shots.

A cover in the first place?
The version that most of us know by Joan Jett (one of my fave songs) was not the original . The original was by The Arrows

Nobody should know music trivia that obscure

Was the original any good? May have to try and track it down on Ares now as I'm curious.

I know, but the "first place" would be the Arrows version.

Just giving you a hard time. :-)

Yeah it is pretty good. It is a male group so it has a slightly different vibe. My husband liked the Arrows so we always have a friendly fight over which version is the best.

You are right, I shouldn't know this stuff but I do. I just found out Toni Basil's 'Hey Mickey' is a cover. Go figure.

Damn that's two I've gotta look for now. Given how distinctive the sound of Hey Mickey is the original is porbably totally different. Be worth hearing just to compare.

Actually it is fairly similar other than that it is done by a man and it called 'Hey Vicky' or something like that. I heard it on a great radio show/website crapfromthepast.com

Letting people know that Tainted Love was not original to Soft Cells does appear to be one of my missions in life too.

Hey there, people, I'm Bobby Brown
They say I'm the cutest boy in town
My car is fast, my teeth is shiney
I tell all the girls they can kiss my heinie
Here I am at a famous school
I'm dressin' sharp 'n I'm
Actin' cool
I got a cheerleader here wants to help with my paper
Let her do all the work 'n maybe later I'll rape her

Oh God I am the American dream
I do not think I'm too extreme
An' I'm a handsome sonofabitch
I'm gonna get a good job 'n be real rich
(Get a good, get a good, get a good, get a good job)

Women's Liberation
Came creepin' across the nation
I tell you people, I was not ready
When I fucked this dyke by the name of Freddie
She made a little speech then,
Aw, she tried to make me say when
She had my balls in a vice, but she left the dick
I guess it's still hooked on, but now it shoots too quick

Oh God I am the American dream
(P.U.)
But now I smell like Vaseline
An' I'm a miserable sonofabitch
Am I a boy or a lady . . . I don't know which
(I wonder wonder, wonder wonder)

So I went out 'n bought me a leisure suit
I jingle my change, but I'm still kinda cute
Got a job doin' radio promo
An' none of the jocks can even tell I'm a homo
Eventually me 'n a friend
Sorta of drifted along into S&M
I can take about an hour on the tower of power
'Long as I gets a little golden shower

Oh God I am the American dream
With a spindle up my butt till it makes me scream
An' I'll do anything to get ahead
I lay awake nights sayin', "Thank you, Fred!"
Oh God, Oh God, I'm so fantastic!
Thanks to Freddie, I'm a sexual spastic
And my name is Bobby Brown
Watch me now; I'm goin' down,
And my name is Bobby Brown
Watch me now; I'm goin' down,
And my name is Bobby Brown
Watch me now; I'm goin' down
