Or if you're not the owner, and just want the domain, it goes into "status: redemption-period" for about 30 days, then into "status: pending-delete" for maybe 5-7 days, then a drop service or guru will grab it 37 milliseconds after it's released and you'll be saying "WTF!? I WAITED OVER A MONTH TO REGISTER THAT MOTHERFUCKER, THIS IS BULLSHIT MAN!!!" At least that's along the lines of how I learned about expired domains.
