What would you have done?

This is the talk of my town today because this is more or less the next big town over. What would you have done?

Shame Of Drivers Ignoring Injured Woman
Security cameras have captured scores of drivers ignoring a woman laying injured by the side of the road.

The shameful scenes show a series of cars passing by the woman as she lay face down. Some of the motorists even swerved to avoid the woman rather than stop to help.

Police believe the 25-year-old female, not yet named, may have been attacked before staggering to the spot in Sidcup, Kent, and collapsing.

They have called on drivers who failed to stop to come forward.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "We are reiterating appeals after a woman was found assaulted in the Sidcup area.

"She was taken to a south London hospital, where she is now in a stable condition."

A spokeswoman for Victim Support branded the incident a "sad sign of today's society".

She went on: "It is dreadful that so many people would drive past without helping.

"You would have thought at least one would have pulled over to see how she was.

"This was in a busy street in the middle of the day."

Anyone who may have seen what happened is urged to contact Bexleyheath police station on 020 8284 9131.

Yeah, then it turns out she was a decoy and when youre trying to help this woman, her partner comes from behind you and hits you over the head and robs you.

Who knows. You can't trust anyone these days. I watch court tv.

I would have called the police from my cell phone.

To the spokeswoman for Victim Support :

You are an idiot! Why in god's name would my wife with 2 kids in the car, 3yrs and 4 months, pull over to the side of the road and get out of her car on a busy street?

This crime could still be in the process with 2 KILLERS 10 feet behind the car dismembering her friend.

and you want my wife to put my infant son at risk? If thats the case then fuck you and eat a cock miss victim support

Exactly. Been there, done that in fact.

I was coming home from a bar one night (sober believe it or not) and there was a guy lying in the middle of the street. I didn't get out but I did block the lane and call the police. Turns out he was really drunk and suicidal. It was a dark, quiet street so I had no idea what he was up to. Since I wasn't armed OR hammered, I stayed in the car.

Thats English people for you Sarah. To obsessed in their own lives to worry about anyone else.

Me personally I would have stopped since it was a woman. If it was a man, I might not have. I would probably have assumed he was drunk or so.... Then again I dunno, maybe I would have.

But being it was a woman I would defo have stopped to do what I could.

To be honest I have seen junkie scum on the side of the road or at the train stations in pain and I would never stop to help them. Of course if I knew a person had just been attacked however, and was of decent character I would always stop to help. Hard to judge though when you are just driving by perhaps.

I would have stopped. No question. I've taken a Hippocratic Oath, and therefore must stop at any scene of injury or illness where I can be of assistance before paramedics arrive on the scene.

The Hippocratic Oath, so named after Hippocrates, is an oath spoken by graduating physicians. A modified version is usually, (though not always), spoken by graduating paramedics, nurses, and occasional CNAs.

I spoke mine in nursing school along with forty some odd others. I make it a point to re-certify in CPR and first aid every year.

Maybe I just care too much? Or maybe I just like to be able to help? Or maybe I like to find out how things work....

Well Ross, I think it is more a case of London people that have had a series of car jackings lately. Perhaps other parts of the country don't understand that fear but that is part of the price of living in a huge city like London.

For the record, I am not sure what I would have fully done but I do know I wouldn't have been able to just leave her there. I might not have wanted to get out of my car to move her for a variety of reasons from not being a doctor and not knowing if it would be safe to move her to being afraid of either being hit by a car myself or that it was a trap. So, I would have also taken the cell phone option while not leaving the area until help did get there. As it is it was a bus driver that helped her. I wonder if not really having the fear of his bus being hijacked was the little bit he needed.

Are you kidding in London everyone has atleast one cellphone and have had for the better part of the last decade. It is illegal to drive while using one but screw that no one would convict someone for making THAT call.

well I live in this area ..there are pleanty of good samaritans and obviously the bus driver that stopped to help is one of them but it is indeed a sad statement on society that either people didn't want to help or they were scared for their own lives if they did. Either way it is sad.

VERY well put.

Depending on my mood, I'd have either pulled over and called 911, while keeping an eye on her.

Or, I'd have honked at her to get the hell off the road.

I was driving home one day and at an intersection was a man that had stumbled and fell, injuring himself while crossing the road. The light turned green, and people just drove around him. When I came to the light, I stopped my car in the middle of traffic, got out....and with the assitance of another pedestrian we managed to get him over onto the sidewalk. We then called for an ambulance. You would not believe the ANGER the drivers behind me showed. They did not want to be held up for the 3 minutes it took us to get the man to safety....and as they drove around my car they swore to high heaven at me.

The reason I left my car right there was simple...the people driving around him were barely missing him and it was my fear that someone would run over him before I could get him out of harms way.

This is the *ME* generation.....the days of "community" for a lot of society are over

Those who know not live from fear as animals.
Those who know live from love as people.

If you're so afraid of something bad happening
to you that you won't help another person who
has collapsed on the side of the road then it's
too late - something terrible has already happened
to you. You've lost all humanity and are living as
a lower animal, driven only by fear and your
self centered instincts. What, pray tell, is the
point of even bothering to live if you're going
to live like that?
