IBM just gained back the world's fastest supercomputer title from NEC of Japan which has held the top spot for the past 3 years.

IBM's new supercomputer Blue Gene/L can crunch calculations at speeds of 36 Teraflops. (A Teraflop is 1 Trillion Calculations per Second.)

The system has 130,000 CPU's and takes 64 racks of space.

Lawerence Livermore National Labs which runs a lot of nuclear blast simulations ordered one, but I don't think the NSA spooks did yet.

The NSA used Cray YMP second generation systems during the 90's which had 32 Gigs of System Ram and could do about 2.6 Billion calcs a second. Not sure of the specs on their latest system deployed.
