The nicest hotels I stayed in were traditional hotels (Ryokan) in Japan where you have your private hot spring :)

A few of my faves...

RESORT - Four Seasons - Punta Mita (Puerto Vallarta)

CITY- Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong or The Ritz Carlton in Chicago, Plaza Athenee in Paris, or room 11 @ The American in Amsterdam
