Too much sleep = increased death rate

Confirmed: Too much sleep really is for pussies.

Sleep hogs beware. A new study suggests that individuals who sleep eight hours or more a night actually have an increased death rate compared with those who average just six or seven hours. The findings appear today in the Archives of General Psychiatry.

Good grief, I am with you Sykk, I think I get 4 hours sleep a night, IF I am really lucky. I am in bed around 2 and up by 6 every damn morning. I do my best work at night after the kids are in bed and in the mornings after they go to school before the little one wakes up.

...but if you're one of the lucky ones who feel alert after six hours of snoozing, rest assured. Says Kripke, "From a health standpoint, there is no reason to sleep longer."

Damn, I'm going to kick my 3rd grade teacher's ass.

Hahaha..I know what you mean. I spent high-school, college, and the first part of my business career living on 4-6 hours a night...then I tried to get on a normal schedule. Now I'm having a hard time on less than 9. My mental clocks are all fucked up.

Actually, I read a more in depth article about the study, and people who sleep 4 hours a night or less have a higher death rate, too. The optimal amount of sleep is between 5-7 hours. 7 hours had the best results.

On a long enough timeline, it is 100%

death rate - The ratio of total deaths to total population in a specified community or area over a specified period of time. The death rate is often expressed as the number of deaths per 1,000 of the population per year. Also called fatality rate.

Amen.

I sleep when I want, wake when I want.

If someone had to ask the me the best benefit of this job aside from cash money, it has to be sleep. Sometimes I have to pull some ugly hours, but for the most part I sleep until my body says it cant do it anymore. Sometimes I sleep till I feel sick. Oversleeping is almost as bad as a hangover.

According to the study, I will make it to 34.
