Doing business with people from certain countries
Why is it that when you do business with someone from specific parts of the world (eastern Europe, South America, Asia) they often ask you how much you will pay them for a product instead of just telling you the price?
Fucking annoying. Customer: "I am interested in buying a blue widget. How much does that cost? " Seller: "How much are you willing to pay? " |

Because they are desperate to do business and think you will pay more than they are willing to take.
I quote a price and that's it. Hate it when someone reduces it all to the level of a bazaar. I say 100, he says 50, I say 100 he says 55, I say 100 he says I'm not playing the game and offers 60. I tell him to go jump in a lake, I thought this was business not a game. ![]() ![]() Negotiating is a little more intense and complicated than that. |

It's pretty annoying. I have been quoted $10K to do an outsourced job but after a few minutes of talking with them, it's down to $500.

I am very well-traveled throughout the Middle East and North Africa where haggling over the price is the norm. This is fine with me because the merchant will SET A PRICE and then you work down from there. What I don't like is when the merchant just says "well how much are you willing to pay"?
And, this would even be acceptable to me in a street bazaar when buying a trinket but in bigger business it is freaking silly. |

The main reason is that they think you will offer more than it they would charge.
I hate the practice personally. If im dealing with someone and im the seller. And the buyer is serious about taking the lowest price that i can offer or he leaves, then i will offer him my lowest price and say i cant go down any more and that it.
