| EV1 Remote Reboot Maintenance today http://forum.ev1servers.net/showthre...threadid=49111 http://forum.ev1servers.net/showthre...threadid=49039 Pray for a downtime under 15min I still hate them for forcing that crap on me and I'll keep that in mind.I prepare for the worst case nothing will work/server won't boot up scenario. Anybody knows a service where my downtime gets measured remotely?I saw some service like that a while ago, I just get a downtime notice but no measurement. |

Start bitching if they dont fix it within a hour but bitching because a sheduled maintenance is kinda odd if you ask me.

				 | I think the poster is whining. If you want your shit up that much, then you should have more than one server with some load balancing in place. From my experience, you're lucky to have gotten any prior notice to an outage. no offense Battus. betterbeup.com -- cool idea. Perhaps you should add some request restrictions to status.php, otherwise it becomes easy for someone else to monitor your servers. Nice use of XML, is any of your code open source? ?xml version="1.0" ?><root><general plugin_version="1.4" tts_version="2.1.0" tts_release_date="2003-11-15" tts_install_date="" os="Linux" hostname="betterbeup.com (ns2.eggdns.com)" ip_addr="64.159.65.23" uptime="21503965.26" users="0" mysqld="1" /><network><lo rx_bytes="1465318098" rx_packets="257211667" rx_errs="0" rx_drop="0" tx_bytes="1465318098" tx_packets="257211667" tx_errs="0" tx_drop="0" /><eth0 rx_bytes="3901526569" rx_packets="2868133161" rx_errs="0" rx_drop="0" tx_bytes="1157565421" tx_packets="983402865" tx_errs="0" tx_drop="0" /></network><cpu_info><cpu0 model="Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz" mhz="2660.23" cache="512 KB" bogomips="5308.41" /></cpu_info><loadavg val1="1.66" val5="1.91" val15="1.90" /><memory><ram total="1012676" used="985680" shared="0" buffers="115080" cached="735284" /><swap total="1044208" used="26600" /><devswap><swp0 dev="/dev/sdb2" total="522104" used="26600" /><swp1 dev="/dev/sda2" total="522104" used="0" /></devswap></memory><filesystems><vol0 disk="/dev/md0" size="34756488" used="32350360" mount="/" fstype="ext2" /><vol1 disk="none" size="506336" used="0" mount="/dev/shm" fstype="tmpfs" /></filesystems></root>

				 | Because when I got to the end of the message I didn't want to sound harsh. It's just recent problems with hosting companies put me in a bad mood. I personally need to get some load balancing in place. Really what I want to do is get hosting in two data centers, and have some wan-balancing so if either of those datacenters goes up in smoke my sites are still live. So Battus, you don't think you'll use remote reboot? Does your datacenter have 24x7 onsite staff? I've wished that I had remote reboot service on my boxes before. Take care. b.

I pay for 99.9% uptime and not for downtimes if you didn't get it yet - you can only earn money when your server is up.Especially with trade based TGPs which will loose big traffic after bigger downtimes.

				 | Battus, nice service you have at betterbeup. Also as far as the reboots, please let me know when you have rebooted the server. You have my phone. Also that one server with domain teensex don't need a reboot Thnx Andre

				 | Looks like you have alot of unnecessary worry about the actual reboot. Because you arent mentioning that you are worried the techs will take longer than necessary to install the power strips and rewire your power chord, so I assume you are worried that your server wont come up after a reboot because of some failure or misconfiguration. Well, thats kinda your fault, because assuming you had your server for a few months you may want to upgrade the OS to plug up any holes that have been discovered and overall tighten things up, guess what you'll need a reboot for that. So if you are worrying about the server not coming up since EV1 doesnt do much tech support for you, thats on your shoulders, I personally have no worries about rebooting any of my servers because I know their configurations inside and out and because the datacenter is staffed 24/7/365. Now if you are taking about delays in the physical labor, I can understand that, but hope for the best, there are always unforseen circumstances, but nothing you can do to avoid that, they are in fact providing a valuable service that plenty of their customers will enjoy and EV1 is more about quantity then specific per customer special requests, so go with the flow, or get a host where you pay a bit more but your individual needs are catered to. |

For the uptime, that goes for the lines not for the server of course, but I never do things that could get my server in the danger of a downtime so it's only the lines that count.
