It'll work but always better to get a clean install.

It will work but a fresh install is the best way imo.

if your on a hdd larger then 40gigs, do yourself a favor

format the whole drive... during install alocate 20gigs for the o/s and all your programs. format the remainder (in ntfs) of the drive for data and store all your data on there

in a worst case scenario, your o/s takes a dump, all your data is still on a seperate partition. this also makes life a LOT easier if you plan on keeping the drive for some time as windows likes to have a freshie install every 12 months or so... more often if your a power user/abuse

More Easier:

1. get Partition Magic and split your disc
- best way in 2 or 3 partitons
2. copy all the C: stuff to the 2. Partition
- keep in mind U CAN'T copy user-stuff !
3. reboot
4. start form CD
5. format the old C: disk - better with FAT32
than NTFS !
- NTFS is not that easy to be restored !
&&
- if you want to install Linux - YOU CAN'T
boot it form NTFS till now !
6. install
7. make in the 2. or the 3. disc directory
named LIB or INSTALL ot whatever and
copy the INSTALLATION-CD there ...
8. also for the stuff you use anytime !
-> 8 -> because WINDOWS crash's many
times a month !!!
9. backup your files on the other partitions
so never get lost !
10. after all - LEARN LINUX or SWITCH
TO MAC

THAT'S ALL - enjoy it
