Drinking and driving
I have a firm belief that some people can do it, some can't.
I used to work as a truck driver when I was 19. I drove 5 ton trucks. They were pretty big, not as big as an 18 wheeler though. My boss was a chronic alcoholic. So was his father. They regularly drove absolutely smashed. What's odd though is they've both had 25+ years safe driving. The old man was 77 I believe and still driving semi-trucks drunk. I know when I have had a few drinks I'm a very, very cautious driver. I have never driven when smashed like my boss was. I have driven after a couple drinks. I know when I've been impaired and I drive much, much slower and pay more attention while driving. Mind you, I haven't driven like this in a long time. If I drink I stay home, if I drink at dinner, the girlfriend drives. Then again you have other people who have 1 drink and think they are Schumacher.(sp?) My brother's best friend went through his windshield on grad night after drinking two single vodka 7's and doing 150 kph into the back of a slow moving Taxi. Far, far too many people who drink and drive get FAR too over-confident. These are the same people who get drunk and violent. I'll probably get flamed, but I firmly believe those with a cool head know after a drink or two, if they drive, how to stay out of accidents. |

Your reactions are still slower than if you were sober. |

Oh absolutely. I'm not saying drinking and driving is ever a smart thing to do. |
