well, most of that stuff is junk these days, as the only active ingredient that worked has now become illegal. Ephedrine. Not that you couldn't find it if you knew where to look... and sure, the stuff works like crazy, but it's not a healthy way to drop the lbs... it's very hard on your heart, and with overweight folks, this is the main concern. people were dropping dead of heart attacks off ephedrine, thus the recent outlaw.

in the past, I used pure ephedrine supps. it was more or less legal-crank. it kept me thin for awhile, but it never lasted. this was well before I started down the "right" path...

All my success has been with "natural" dieting and exercise. I refuse to put any of that stuff in my body now. As it also left me feeling like a car wreck afterwards anyway...

Now I get my ups from running (runners high), and caffeine. Both keep me burning calories during my off time.

Soda is bad for you because of other ingredients.....like the carbonation....

You've given some great advice.....I believe, that, when you go into a supermarket...you buy 'real' food, like veggies and fruits...and meats, foul and fish...leave the packaged products alone...and don't eat anything you can't pronounce.

For those of us who don't have time to go to a gym, walk around the house or up and down stairs for twenty minutes. If you can't afford free weights, pick up two books and lift them....there are ways around this lifestyle.

Great advice Raven.:thumbsup

eating "Fresh" foods is the first step to success for sure.

Well, I'm a fitness trainer, so I could give you my thoughts on that stuff.

As far as supplements that decrease or modify your body's natural reactions, are BAD. Your body is a very delicate, inctricate system that sends you messages and alerts whenever it is in need of something. For example, you put your hand in fire. Your response is to take it out, why? Because it will get burnt.

Hunger is the SAME thing. If you neglect your hunger, your body will become a fat storing MACHINE, meaning ANYTHING that can be converted to fat that you eat when you consistently avoid hunger, will be turned into fat.

That is why 3 meals is not frequent enough. 5 smaller meals however, is more natural and more instinctive for your body. Our genetic foundation came from scavengers who ate small meals when they could, throughout the day. So when you DON'T do that, your body reacts to that as if there is a shortage of food, and will STORE FAT! Make sense?

So you have to make sure you have at least 5 meals during the day, this way, you won't be hungry, and you'll lose fat.

:winkwink:

oh -- and, I believe you should only take a multi-vitamin at first, and simply focus on changing your lifestyle - adapting to a new one, including basic diet principles and exercise. that alone will yield great results.

i like this response allot better then the one i gave, disregard mine!:1orglaugh

i don't want to give the impression that the ephedrine had LASTING results. What galleryseak said is on the money... it will jack you... in a bad way.

--mind you, results like that can be made in a shorter time frame, my first 2 years i really didn't know what i was doing diet-wise and wasted a lot of time.

sodium makes you hold water. if you want to be shredded ( very vascular ), avoid exess sodium and it will be much easier.

that said, anything in moderation isn't going to kill you. i drink red-bull often before going to the gym and it doesn't effect me too much... but if i want my shit to REALLY POP, i'll stop drinking it for a week or two and I'll cut right up. :thumbsup

also, the more water you drink, the more cut you'll be...:winkwink:

nooo. the only thing i took back then was protein shakes, but never consistently. then i gained a lactose intolerance and i couldn't even drink lactose-free protein shakes.

so now I don't even take any supplements whatsoever. im gonna try to find something that'll work though in terms of protein shakes.

it's very possible to get some good size without resorting to drugs. i was/am very consistent about my workouts. i also strive for new goals weight-lifting wise.

my barbell flat bench press max is 275
my flat dumbbell press is 120 lb dumbbells for 5 reps
preacher curl 135x6 reps
barbell shoulder press 185x5
dumbbell shoulder press 90x5
deadlift 375x4

i'm 6'0 185

all about intensity and forcing an adequate adaptive response.

i still have a LOT of room for improvement and I can't wait till i'm reppin the 3 plates !

pushpills 09-21-2004 02:54 PM

Good for you! The struggle with weight is something so many people deal with, no matter how rich or poor you are.

If you want to lose or maintain weight, you have to commit to it. Once you get going, you'll be happy, and want to continue.

I never get more than 15 pounds overweight since I was 16.

You can get new cars, new chicks, new gucci wallets, but you cant get a new body without alot of work over time.

Congrats man! :thumbsup

yeah I have the same problem, I find if I start eatting small meals I loose weight but, being a workaholic I notice soon as I get up I go to the computer and start programming, and before I know it, almost the whole day is gone, so I eat lunch at around 1 or 2, totally forgot breakfast, and then when I noticed I didn't eat dinner it is around 9 or so. The only thing that is saving me is I playing b-ball 3 times a week.

i bought myself a mini fridge to keep fresh food in. i bring grocerys to work all the time. you can eat every 3 hours if you plan ahead.

keeping up with everything food and exercise wise is no easy task either. put that on top of a typical webmasters workload (never ending) and you have one full schedule.

like i said earlier, it's got to be an all around lifestyle change...

RyanL 09-22-2004 08:03 PM

Sure thing.:thumbsup

A typical day for me...

Wake up 6:30am, slam a protein shake, go for a run. When I get back, after showering and getting ready, I'll have a banana sliced over oatmeal with skim milk (roughly 7:30am). Then a large coffee on the way in to work. 3 hours later I'll have my first snack. Usually I'll just munch some sort of energy bar, fruit, or beef jerky. Maybe yogurt or cottage cheese if I'm in the mood. Next comes lunch... Considering I go out for lunch almost every day, I have to be carful. Usually I'll go to some sort of seafood place and order grilled salmon or something of that nature. If I don't get seafood, I try and find a grilled chicken sandwich, sub sand, or something of that nature. No fries though!!! Back from lunch I might have another cup of coffee... maybe not. lol. 3 hours after that I'll have an afternoon carb load snack. Something that's going to give me plenty of energy for a good workout. I'm a cereal junky, so I usually have a bowl of oat based fiber rich cereal. A good brand is "Kashi". After work I'll head home while drinking a sugar-free redbull, then it's strait to the gym! Every week I switch my routine up a bit, but for the most part I'll take one day for back/shoulders, another for bi's/tri's, and another for legs. I usually do abs every other morning before my run.

I'll try and go further into the specifics of my routine later, but I'm in meetings all day today so it's going to have to wait a bit.

I hope this helped a little for those with questions about my diet/routine.
