lying is bad.... but it keeps people from going apeshit....it regulates... just like the bible does.... just another book of laws written by a group of guys...great story... highly recommended to read

then why is it that the bible teaches us that lying is immoral and bad? what does this say about the bible?

In that particular case, I agree, lying is bad.

You're buying a car, you know you can afford to pay fullprice + markup but you tell the dealer you cant so they reduce the price...is lying bad in this case??

to me, lying is good or bad depending on the situation

it's just like a math equation

if the BENEFITS of the lie are MORE POSITIVE than the NEGATIVENESS of the lie itself, then the lie becomes good

if not, the lie was bad

now how interesting is that?

Thats true, if a lie is going to benefit me, then its not a lie, its more of a story Im telling.

all form of lying is bad and i believe that. however, i do understand the small lies and at times i have done the same. by the same token, i got caught in a big one that really hurt one of my friends a very long time ago and from that point on, i decided that no matter how badly the truth hurts, i will state it plainly and unabridged.

most people dont like the truth but smart people will respect you for it and the truth can never come back to bite you.

those who cant handle the truth live in denial and those type of people i want nothing to do with. believe me when i tell you karma came back to me and i never want to go though that again. the karma i could deal with, it's the hurt of another that i couldn't.

for me?

the bible is nothing else but the opinion of a group of people. I agree with some things, disagree with others. The bible is an attempt to teach pure morality, but fails in many ways, because of self contrediction in many passages as well as conflict with other religions, and not allowing people to keep an open mind about other religions.

The bible also sees lying as a sin, and immoral, so I would avoid lies at all costs.

That's the thing with the bible, it's a "brainwashing tool" that comes from people who "BELIEVE they know the truth about morality and life"

and that is why I am not a believer
what I DO believe in, is MY philosophy of life, and of course, that may NOT be the truth, but it is my opinion and perception

Lying and *telling the truth* are human qualities.
