Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sky_captain/
so far, its getting rave reviews: "The mythology of ?Star Wars? with the stylized flair of 1940s film noir, digitally dreamed and superbly acted. Say hello to what could be the best film of 2004." this from some who attended advanced screenings: I was pretty enthused going into this movie, but I didn't expect to see one of the best films I've ever seen in my lifetime. I was lucky enough to be invited to the premiere with Harry Knowles and Kerry Conran in Austin, and the film, quite simply, blew me away. I don't think I've ever seen a movie quite like it, but then again, the closest thing you could compare it to would be classic 30's cinema pieces like King Kong. The film was absolutely perfect in just about every way -- from the beautiful digital sets to the characters and the storyline arc that kept it all together. It was a feast for science fiction fans, of which I am not a huge one, but even as a casual observer of the genre I can still safely say that it was one of the best genre films of all time. A beautiful and COMPELLING movie that you really owe it to yourself to see. *************** also: I had the extreme honor, after many months of anticipation, to see 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' a few weeks ago. I'm an industry professional and I was captivated by the mere look of this film from the trailers. When I sat down at the screening, many of the other 'viewers' were, like me, eagerly awaiting the verdict on this film. From the first frame, you are sucked into the world of tomorrow and it never lets you go. This is a ride that reminds you of what it's like to be a kid again. I have always had problems with what some consider the 'popcorn action films' of late. They're less about story and more about how they can WOW you visually with all the fancypants CG crap. The LOTR trilogy was a great example of how CG was used, not to tell the story, but to enhance the overall authenticity of the look and feel while adding a realism that CG never brought us before. 'Sky Captain' takes the LOTR approach to its use of CG, to its benefit. I can safely say that this film could turn out to be the next 'Indiana Jones' or 'Star Wars' trilogy...it's THAT great. This is the film that my future children will salivate over, just like I did for the aforementioned masterpieces. Director Conran really demonstrates a sincere talent for not only the film-making process, but a creative originality and inventiveness long left by the wayside in 'popcorn' cinema of the past ten years. This is NOT a popcorn flick. And it's rated PG, so I recommend that everyone take their children to see it(without a doubt you're kids will thank you). 'Sky Captain' is easily in a new class of films; one which I will gladly attend every chance I get. ********************************** ********************************** I'm getting pretty jazzed up about this one & I thought that movie lovers on GFY would appreciate the advance word on this flick.........I like the 40's film noir look to the previews.......hopefully the storyline is good. |

Joblo also gives it a positive review......... "..........I'm looking forward to owning this movie on DVD and despite it not being for everyone, heartily recommending it to anyone who loves the INDIANA JONES and STAR WARS franchises, and who's sick and tired of seeing the same old crap regurgitated onto their local movieplex screens every other weekend. A great, fun ride!" Looks like we may have a keeper here and its about time. |

I thought this movie would suck based on the trailer I seen in the theater. I'm surprised it's getting good reviews, might have to check it out.

I didn't really think all that much of seeing it until I started hearing more about it. The trailers don't suck me in for it.

"not just the best sci-fi flick since Minority Report, it?s also one of the best films of the year, making wannabe event movies like Spider-Man 2 look like chump change."
-- Christopher Null, FILMCRITIC.COM ************* I loved Spidey 2........if it makes Spidey look like chump change, its gotta be special...........thats if this reviewer is correct. |

Looked horrible at first to me, but it's slowly looking better and better. Kinda like i'm wearing beer goggles or something after a couple dozen irish carbombs ...
