Use the patch. I used the nicoderm CQ that has different strenghs. Buy lots of gum and lifesavers. You have to remember that unless you're really committed to quit, nothing will work for you.

Well I didn't stop so far but wan't to stop one day
Yes before I die

Some friends of me quit smoking and said it's the best to just throw away all your cigerettes.
No pills or anything they say that might help.
Just throw away all.
Well it sounds easy but it's damn hard for sure.

I quit for a year, but started again, but I will tell you how I did it.
FIRST: I wanted to quit!
Second: I limited myself to 4 cigs a day for 5 days, the 6th day I had 1..
Third: NEVER try another cigg again in your life or you will FUCK UP!
I am almost to the place I want to quit again, so.. I will be using the same way again. It worked. Fuck the patch, you're STILL putting nicotein in your body. It has to do with your state of mind, if you really don't want to quit, the patch will not do you any good. Plus the nightmares SUCK!

GOOD LUCK! And I mean that. I am hooked, have been since I was 13 (14 years ago).I have no hope.

Red, LOL , so fantastic to have you on the board and doing well! You're such a sweetie and such a fantastic lady...but lol... I have to disagree with you. After a joint is the worst time for nicotine fits for me .

You know how I am with cigarettes/alcohol...it's much worse than that.

some health food stores sell this gum that i can't remember the name of. anyways, what it does is you chew it and for an hour after you've chewed it, if you light up a cigarrette you get the most horrible, vomit-inducing taste in your mouth. i tried it once and immediately threw it away cause i knew it would work!

It takes me 1-3 weeks to smoke a pack -- that's how I've been for two years now...

I've never tried to really quit -- but I'd say it would help to avoid smokers at all cost if you wanted to quit. That would mean never going to a bar w/ smokers or hanging out with your friends during your lunch break... ;( Also stop having sex -- j/k

Stop drinking beer. Because we all know a cigarette is so much better after a beer ;) heheh...

Seriously I think cardiovascular excercise is probably the best. See you were playing tennis and you wanted to quit. Try jogging... You will be coughing and coughing and hacking away the entire time -- that's good for you! You're cleaning our your lungs. Don't get discouraged that you are slow and you suck and little grandma's are running faster than you are... -- later in the day your lungs will hurt bad from coughing and you won't want to smoke a cigarette because you will feel the physical pain in your lungs from the smoke. Keep running and sooner or later you will want to improve your times and you'll realize that you could be a much better runner (and more healthy) if you quit smoking.

Anyway Go Fuck Yourself.

I quit for about a year awhile back. I started chewing, then quit smoking. Then used the patch to get off the chew. That worked pretty well. When I tried the patch to quit smoking it just pissed me off.

AA3X I totally agree with you. I quit for 2 years. Unfortunately I started up again. The state of mind is the key. You have to say screw it and have lots of will power. Plus I started munching on celery and carrots. People thought I was crazy for bringing like a bag of celery to work a dsy and munching it down but screw them. Celery will keep your mouth busy, thats the hardest part to over come. You want to do something with your hands and mouth all the time.
I don't think that eating pussy and jacking off at work goes over too well so, celery is definately the alternative. Or any other veggie that you like

Welbutrin will take the cravings away, you can get your doctor to prescribe it. The only problem is that you will have to find something to occupy your habit time with. It is difficult. I started smoking when I was 13, and I have never been able to maintain a period for longer than a year without smoking.

Kandi and I are facing the same issues.

You have to be prepared to mess with yer mind. Recognise it's more psychological than anything else.

After 8-9 tries (longest 1 was 8 months), I got it right:

It's called something like neurological programming or something. Who cares? Here's how you do it:

1. What is it that pops into your head just when you feel like a cig? (for me it was a beautiful picture of sunshine, summer, relaxing, happiness etc.).

2. Take this picture and *gradually many times over* shrink it down in your mind and *replace* it with a black-and-white small rainy boring picture instead. Repeat it over and over a few times until you have it right.

3. Convince yuorself that you have *always* been a non-smoker. Always.

I did the above (after reading a book by some American wanker guru) and gave up in a space of 1 hour on the 21st of Jan 1995, and I have *never* even had a craving. Never a craving! I was on 45 cigs a day at the time.

I know the above can sound a bit wanky, but it'll probably make me live another 5-10 years longer and be a lot healthier. I could of course get hit by a bus tomorrow

Good luck!

... and btw - I tried the joint thing. Man, I was high 20 hrs a day, and ended up growing the stuff in the garage so I had to park my car on the street. Didn't work for me at all.

Am smoke free 9 days today after many failures believing I needed "WellButrin" myself, which did nothing for me and the 2 ppl that took the meds when I did, we all 3 failed.

Got pneumonia after Internext June show, was told COPD [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] is a lable all smokers are given. They gave it to me. Place me on inhalers &, steroid inhalers & mask breathing treatments due to inflammation after flunking pulmonary function tests a month before I got sick [showed inflammation changes].

Good news, lungs start to repair themselves immediate, was smoking from age 15 to 44. They told me friday, I will not have to pull oxygen tank down the road now since I quit, and expect to have me off inhalers too down the road.

How did I do it? Friend had success playing with those Swisher Sweets Cherry tipped cigars, 5 to a pack for $1.50--Cigarettes was never a nicotine addiction to me [so using patches was not right aid], it was hand to mouth [2 packs a day]. I burn those cigars now and don't inhale and Docs approved using them as my crutch! NO MORE WHEEZING--

Don't miss the smokes, and feel GREAT.

The patches work very well, except for the mental side. You have to want it.

Sodas, spirits, and food all bring on the desire to smoke.

I was able to stop smoking for almost two weeks before my weak mind took over. I found that chewing wrigley's gum helped.

Good luck on quiting!

I'm glad that I never touched a cig in my life and I'm 27. There were times when I thought about trying it to see what the buzz is about them, but then I thought that all it would take is ONE cig to get me hooked, then I'd be screwed, he he he. I figure that it's much easier to keep myself from trying cigs than it'd be to get myself to stop.

The easiest way to quit smoking is to not even start with it ...

woah, a lot of smokers/xsmokers! For me I guess most of it is mentally. After i eat, i need a cig, when i open up a beer, i need a cig. if i hit a joint, i need a cig afterwards! BUT the worst for me is when i'm driving.. i always need a smoke when im driving, it could be down the street to pick up some bread.. i'll end up having one on the way to the bakery and one the way back (the bakery is less than a mile away). Its pathetic. We're expecting our first kid in 7 months, i don't want to smoke in front of him/her!

Wifey went and bought me a big-ass bag of jolly rancher suckers, and put them in my car, so next time i'ma go for a drive i'm suppoused to put a sucker in my mouth to block the "oral fixation" ! And i think i am going to go ahead with the cigar idea..(not swishers because i'd rather smoke the packaging swishers come in! ) But i'll start smoking more and more cigars and try to cut down on the cigs!

BTW i saw an add for a hypnotist that can make you quit smoking, do you think that shit really works?

If u really wanna quit, keep yourself stoned, eating & sleeping for like a week.

When you finally wake up out of the Eating, stoned, sleeping Coma...you wont want a cigg =)
