So my cat started going outside again...

Now my cats were raised all their lives as housecats, but when we lived in the boonies, they started to go outside.. one in particular started wandering far from home... he was gone for three months one time, we were sure he was dead... In the bush there are so many animals that eat cats... coyotes, bears, foxes, hawks, eagles, etc. But he came back...

So now we live in a nice urban area, the cats are going outside again. There's a huge greenspace across the road with woods and everything. They love going over there. Well lately I have been finding dead mice at the door every single morning. I figured it was natural they were mousers before they will always be. Then we were outside the other night at the BBQ, I had just let the big cat (Wacko) outside not even ten minutes before when I see him come back with somethign dead in his mouth.. something big. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was a baby rabbit! (There are like tons of them at the park, hundreds if not thousands). It was easily 1/3 his size, and he's not a small cat. He proceeded to eat it in front of us. Oi. I know the city was complaining about the rabbits becoming pests (they were pretty much epidemic this year), but wow... maybe I should rent him out to them, he's pretty efficient.

Figured I'd share, it was gross/amusing, whatever

When I first moved into the old ranch in Death Valley, we had a shitload of rabbits running around, you had to be careful when you drove onto the property. Within 6 months of living there, my one cat had decimated the rabbit population - at least on our lands.

Even worse is when he brought in a rabbit to teach the kittens how to kill. I got up the next morning, and it looked like an axe murderer had been thru the house - what a mess.

And we tried putting a collar/bell on the cats, too. They damn near choked themselves to death struggling to get the collars off, so we 86'd that idea.

They have quick-release collars with bells, but he still manages to catch critters.. I don't get it

My cat is hitting the chipmunk and mouse population pretty hard around my house. He left me one a few days ago so he must like me.

My cats have been bringing dead mice home for about a month now pretty regularly, gross.

When I lived in Tahoe we had land behind our apartment and my cats must have killed every mole in that area and set them in our front yard.

My cats are going to be very upset when winter rolls around and they can't go outside anymore, and when I move and no longer have a nice backyard for them

We recently lost a cat who would bring baby rabbits in through the petdoor, then proceed to eat them alive on the kitchen floor. There is no worse way to be awakened than by the sound of a baby rabbit screaming a few feet away from you
