When I was into clubbing a few years ago we often used to dance underneath the side speakers - which were subwoofers. :

This was doof doof music so you actually FELT every beat...

during world war 1 and 2 the military studied ways to use sound as an effective weapon. a frequency below 20 HZ at over 130 decibels can cause internal bleeding and the collapse of certain organs. not suprised at all.

So THAT'S why I saw 3 people collapse at a Crystal Meth show, and here I thought it was because of an overdose...

That happened to me in 1986 but I never thought it was connected to loud music, although at the time I was going to weekly concerts that were pretty high volume.
A pneumothorax isn't a pleasant thing to treat, either, especially after happening to me a second time. (twice in the same year, never since)

In my life I have been to way too many clubs , and I am very hard of hearing. People can be standing right next to me talking at a normal level, and I will have no idea what they are saying. I talk very loud because I can't hear very well, I hate it. Now I try and wear ear plugs when I go out to save whatever hearing I have left. But they always fall out.

I used to stand by the speakers too, and you can feel it in your body it's almost like your heart starts beating to the music.
