Photoshop question

OK... Starting to go crazy here. I'm trying to save a tarnsparent text as a gif. Thing is the text looks crap. If I save it with a background it's smooth and all, but transparent it's blocky as hell. I'm almost sure I've saved transparent text gifs in earlier versions of photoshop wit no problem, but it doesn't seem to work in CS. What am I doing wrong?

Help please

Are you saving as perceptual gif?

I figured out just before I read your post, but thanks for answering though!

You don't do anything wrong, other than trying it at all. In order to avoid the blocky appearance, PS has to mix the font color with the bg color at the edges. When there is no bg color, the outcome will always look crappy.

I worked around it by using black as "matte", and since the background is really dark it came out really good
