Picks & Shovels
The internet porn goldrush is over. A few years ago, one could put up a few pics on a hastily created web page, and watch the cash roll in. But these days, it takes many many hours of tedious work to realize a relatively small profit.
If I work 10 hours per day for a week, but only make $300 or $400, then see that money go down the tubes paying for bandwidth, I'd be better off getting a job bussing tables at Hooters. I can't start a membership site, because there are already dozens out there with 1 million pictures and thousands of movies available. How am I supposed to compete with that? It seems to me that at this point in the evolution of the internet porn industry, I should be able to make money in other ways besides just selling pics and memberships to horny web surfers. We always complain about our money going to pay for bandwidth, so why not join the guys who are making money charging webmasters for bandwidth? We always complain about the lack of quality content that hasn't already been passed around for months, so why not create our own content and sell it to webmasters? Anybody see where I'm going with this? Thoughs/comments? |

I agree, times are changing and only the strong will survive. Making money on TGPs and Freesites is going the way of the Dinosour...
However, there is still lots of money to be made, for example Adult.com is growing and looking to hire many new people. Especially Graphics people! |

To address some of your points:
Paysites don't all have millions of pics and movies, most of that is leased content or plugins. Who's complaining about bandwidth charges? Not me. Cost of doing business. Lack of quality content- what are you high? Who's complaining about that? There's a SHITLOAD of content out there. It's getting cheaper all the time there's so much of it. As for where you're going - you seem to be saying that the place to be is selling the picks and shovels, and I don't think I agree entirely. Talk to the people you seem to think are "raking it in" - content is not cheap to produce, hosting requires a large capital outlay. I don't think either of these things are a license to print money. Basically what it boils down to is this - there's still plenty of money to be made in this industry, on all sides.. But if you're clueless, you'll no longer be able to make a profit. That's a GOOD thing. I am getting tired of the constant influx of anything for a buck newbies, and I wish they would get the clue and realize there is no quick buck to be had in this industry..
