Tarantino must be a genious...

I mean...

he buys the U.S.A rights for a 2 year old movie (Hero with Jet Li) and it goes to gross $18 million dollars its first weekend making in one of the most successful foreign films ever....

and it's even subtitled....

People have been doing this for years...even George Romer brought Godzilla King of the Monsters into American theaters and just shot some extra scenes with Raymond Burr

Yeah I guess with his name after Kill Bill it was perfect as it seemed miramax had fucked itself over with their ASIA/Europe release of it 2 years ago...

one visually beautiful movie!

Actually, I thought he did the "Tarantino Presents" thing as a favor to Weinstein?

The reason the movie did so well is most didn't know it was subtitled.

I saw the movie on DVD last year thanks to a region-free DVD player and loved it but wonder how many people stormed out of the theater complaining about having toread subtitles....

I'm hoping that this REALLY opens the floodagtes for Asian films to get better distribution in the US.

Too bad Mirimax fucked up one of the best Asian films I've seen in awhile in "Shaolin Soccer" with a weak distribution plan and poor advertising.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was also subtitled and alot of people didnt expect that, but even when they were surprised by it I dont think too many of them were really that pissed off by it.

Jet Li has some good films .. and just putting the name Tarantino on a box will make anyone buy it.

I haven't seen it yet but here it is a great flick...one reason I didn't see it is because it looked like a hyped up Disney flick like Mighty Ducks or something.

People walked out of the theater I was in. I loved it, but it will be interesting to see how it does in the second week. Word of mouth about the subtitles might cost it a lot of potential viewers. Sad but true.

"Hero" is one of the best movies in this world - dramatical with passion and a lot of sword fightings
Tarantino made a good choice.
