Photographers...
I picked up a vintage Pentax K1000 Asahi today circa 1977-78 in immaculate shape for $60 with a Vivitar 2X Tele Converter Coupler. From what I understand this camera is a very nice one and takes awesome shots. Anyone have any experience with them? Thanks in advance.

K1000 was the favorite choice of photo students - easy to use and affordable.

old school in the house.
That's gotta be the easiest camera to learn the basics of photography on. . . (technically speaking because you can't teach someone to see like an artist/photographer). Good luck. i think pentax needs to come out with a d-1000. The be-all for cheap mofos in digital slrs.

Now take yourself and the camera to the local Junior College and enroll in some photography classes. You'll never fully appreciate the camera until you have a good working knowlege of photography. When you do, you'll love it.

That is the most popular and best selling camera in history. Basic as it gets and works good!

Pentax K1000 used to be the standard "film camera" used to learn photography with. It was inexpensive, had all the manual controls and the pentax glass was sharp as a tack. My first camera was a Pentax K1000 and I bought it from Sears about 15 years ago
Most professionals don't shoot the K1000 because it is just not going to hold up to industrial usage. But if you are going to shoot it as a hobby - you should be just fine. You can buy used lenses for it cheap on Ebay...... ![]() |

Sure, but can you teach style, creativity and talent. Training in the tools and technical skills isn't the same imho. ![]()
