				Olympians Banned From Blogging
CNN reports that in a bid to protect its lucrative media contracts, the IOC is barring competitors, coaches, and support personnel from writing firsthand accounts of their Olympic experience, on the web or in print, for the duration of the Games. Nor are they allowed to ever post photographs or movies that they've taken, including media of themselves, even after the Games are finished. They've threatened to disqualify anyone that violates their restrictions and sue them for monetary damages. Looks like an effort to clamp down on grassroots, word-of-mouth publicity for the Olympics -- good thing they're not having any problems selling tickets anyways, eh? http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/interne....ap/index.html |

				 | Oh my god -- that is so fucked up. And people act like PORN stars/models/content are so exploited. Those athletes are totally exploited, have no freedom, and no money unless they win a medal. Sad. Can't even tell their own stories. Maybe because then we'd know what a shitty business it is . . . lucrative for a few off the blood, sweat, and tears of the athletes. |

				 | While I understand the IOC's stance on protecting their image, promotional, etc. I think they are going too far. Maybe if they'd lower ticket prices a little more and ive us events we actually give a fuck about..... ah but wait, we'll also be inundated with 10,000 DVD's from the Olympics.... I wish I had a chunk of that Olympic pie.....
