about the diet soda, somebody told me or i read it somewhere that carbonated beverages even if there is no sugar in them are a problem when it comes to weight. something to do with the shape of the molecules, i didn't dream this - i searched all over the Net to see if i could find any articles or mention of anything like this - no luck. it sounds stupid but i am thinking that i know so many people who drink diet soda, don't eat all that much and are don't have much luck in losing weight that maybe there is something about carbonated drinks, diet ones included, that is a factor in obesity.

maybe try Diet Snapple - is there Diet Snapple?

i can't stand the taste of any diet drinks.

We'll I live in communistic finland. We have a very limited supply of sodas and drinks.
I think the thing that could be related to bodyfat on dietcoke is the caffeine, I red somewhere that caffeine could have some impact on insulin.

Water please, a good **habit** 2 get into, harder than you might think.

If you can do the water thing, other things will follow, unless you are a dumb shit.

Try calorie counting. Almost every diet (with a few exceptions) will require you to count the amount of calories you eat in a day. To loose weight quickly, most diets will have you at 1200-1500 calories a day. After that you can increase your calorie intake to your height, weight, and exercise requirments (once you have reached your goal).

A lot of people consume more that 3000-4,500 calories in a day.

Here are two websites that lists the foods we eat, including Restaurants, Beers, and so on. Just take a quick peek to see how many calories you take in a day to maintain your current weight.

http://www.dietclub.com.au/foods/

http://www.caloriecontrol.org/

Okay, now then. You need to eat 3 meals a day, eat your snacks in between to try to keep your stomach full. You snacks need to be low calorie but filling. You are use to overeating so you tend to just eat, even if your not hungry. That is why calorie counting will help and spread your calories out through your meals.

I lost about 40 lbs in a month by counting calories and exercising with a bowflex, and stairstepper. I didn't do anything extreme. Just decreased my amount of calories, I still felt full while eating and felt great after loosing the weight.

Oh, did I mention I gained it all back though :( Only because I quit doing all the things I listed above. The exercise stopped, began eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

Honestly, to loose weight it's a whole lifestyle change of eating. That is why the majority of people gain weight back. Because you loose weight and go back to your old eating style. :(

Good luck and kudos. I'll keep a watch on you guys. I'm starting my diet again too. I want to be back into shape where the guys whistle. :thumbsup

caffeine ( coffee ) can prevent you from getting diabetes, but will not help after you get it.

so if you have a history of it in your family, drinking coffee will help you but won't if you already have it.

why do fat people always drink diet coke? Does it make you make you feel better to drink diet coke along with that supersized big mac meal? Seriously I always wondered about this..

Regular coke is too sweet, plain and simple. I don't like the taste, pepsi is even worse.

But what made you drink diet coke to start with? Were you on a diet then learned to like the taste? I personally cant stand the taste of anything diet. Seems like pure torture to me.

and i agree pepsi sucks!

btw. good luck with the diets, it's nice to see people working to improve themselves.

No, I just disliked regular coke because it was too sweet. Tried diet coke and stuck to it since it tasted better.
I don't do diets, this is probably my first one ever.. so I'm doomed. :)

digi 08-28-2004 07:42 AM

This is what I would do if I were you.

- Make sure you dont have junk food in the house. When you go grocery shopping, dont go when you're hungry or you'll just buy a bunch of useless shit like cookies etc.
- Walk instead of using the car. If it takes 30 minutes or less to walk to then you dont need the car.
- When you get the munchies either drink water or eat fruit instead of something unhealthy. If you just stay away from the unhealthy stuff then you wont miss it after a few weeks .
- Cook your own food instead of eating out.
- Like the other people said, stay away from soda. Drink fruit juice or water instead.. once you get off the sugar rush these things provide then you wont miss it.

Just start off making small lifestyle changes, then join a gym etc. Dont go on a fucking diet since it wont work in the long run.

i just launched a new site, www.healthygo.com . eros, if you're really interested and wanna make a change, msg me on ICQ and i'll give you a test CC # to use and i'll train you for free. you'll be an example for GFY. you just have to be willing to commit.

icq: 153785636

it's all about will power, the physical aspects of training and such isn't entirely difficult as most tend to think. it's just motivating yourself to do it. but if you force yourself for a period of 6 to 8 weeks, your body will have had enough time to show the first signs of an adaptive response, and that right there is the real motivator.

hahah, betting over how much weight ya can lose..

here's a better bet... it's not about how quickly you can lose weight, rather who can get themselves down to a healthy NORMAL weight and keep it off throughout years n' years, without gaining it back.

So start it now and 2 years later end it ;)

n' god damn, I read briefly through these posts and some of the diets you guys have mentioned are horrible. you guys CAN'T expect to lose weight by starving yourself or only eating 3 meals a day. you have to eat 5 TO 6 SMALL portioned meals a day, this'll raise your metabolism (which in turn burns more calories)! :winkwink: this is because our genetic foundation was based on humans who scavanged the land (we were meant to be ACTIVE people, not sedentary) and ate when they could.

cayne 08-28-2004 08:06 AM

I drink Diet coke for the taste, not for the diet part. Pepsi tastes like shit to me.. Way too sweet. If theres no diet cokes around ill take a regular coke. Hell I havent even used sugar regularly for years. Just if no one has the artificial sweeteners around. Just personal taste.

one of the main problems is the fact that people think you only have to workout for X amount of weeks or months, and then expect that they'll keep the gains having gone back to their old ways... yeah right

it's a lifelong commitment. it's called a fitness lifestyle.

and for each n' every person, there is a different variation of this "fitness lifestyle" that is tolerable, it's just a matter of finding what exactly suits your best. a healthy fitness lifestyle is not etched in stone, it depends on your body and most importantly, your preferences.

a lot of people quit diets, because they'll snatch a canned diet from a health magazine or a website, that will completely eliminate all of the foods they like... you CAN indeed, shed lbs by keeping the foods you like to eat... hell, you like twinkies, YOU can have your twinkies! it's just a matter of controlling your urge. 2 days a week, you can have your twinkies, but certainly not every day throughout the day.

the person who mentioned the fac that you have to count your calories is exactly correct. it's a very simple concept...

everyone has a BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).. this is how many calories your body burns on it's own without you even moving... Say your BMR is 1,900 calories, and you're moderately active.. so that's a total of 2,200 calories a day (we'll assume your moderately physically active lifestyle requires 300 calories of energy throughout the day)... well, if you were to record all of the caloric values from the labels, of every food you ate throughout one day.... and find that your consuming 3,000 calories... that's 800 more calories than your body needs to maintain your current weight...

so if you want to lose fat, you create a caloric deficit... you consume 300 calories LESS than what your body in total consumes per day (2,200).. so you'd want to consume 1,900 calories..

it's not that difficult... people just think it's so difficult because the media and these fitness companies purposely fill your head with fucking bullshit miracle diets that **never** work longterm.

so, yeah get back to me eros. i get much more in depth, but you'll learn from it.
