I can't fucking believe what a back-ass backwards state I live in... where it's legal to ride your damn motorcycle without a helmet, yet I get a ticket for driving without a seatbelt this weekend. Here I thought we lived in a "free" country, but some damn redneck state trooper can just pull my ass over for not having my seatbelt on.

Fuck them, I'm going to fight this motherfucker all the way to the Supreme court if I have to, this is bullshit!

I got a ticket for bad inspection stickers this weekend. Sure, the stickers are 2 1/2 years expired.... but I still thought it was bullshit

The ticket was only $46, but it's the pure stupidity of the guys who run this state that let people ride a motorcycle with no helmet, yet force me to have a seatbelt on.

No wonder the idiots couldn't even get the damn votes counted...

Nah, when you think about it, it really makes a lot of sense. It's Darwinism at its finest. The retard that rides a mototcycle without a helmet won't live if he goes down at any appreciable rate of speed, and if he does he'll be a burden to society, what with all the respirators and what not. Why should they fine someone who was not destined to ensure the survival of the species? Better to just let them kill each other off and make the world a happier place for the rest of us.

concerning seatbelt, think the innumerable assholes that drive on the same road with you. Their faults might have fatal results on you,your children or your wife. The state tries to protect you, I don't think it has to do with freedom. There are so many, much more important freedom issues that humanity has to solve first and then pass to seatbelt laws.

You have to wear a seatbelt to help you maintain control of your X.X ton metal mass of doom. It keeps your ass in yer damn seat in many situations so you can safely drive/stop your vehicle.

Its the govt telling us how we need to live our lives. In order to get federal aid to do road construction the state HAS to have a seat belt law in place.

With vehicles they can do tests to see the effects of an accident when people wear their seatbelts and when they dont. I dont know of any tests to determine the effects of wearing a helmet or not. Because many of the bad accidents with motorcycles have more than 1 type of injury.

When my state passes a helmet law, that is the day I sell my motorcycle. I dont mind wearing a helmut on a long trip on the highways, but when I am just cruising the local city (less than 50k pop) I dont wear mine.

yeah yeah... Texas laws are like this too! If we want to take risks by not wearing a seatbelt then we should be allowed to take those risks! As long as it doesn't hurt or put anyone in danger besides yourself it should be legal. (maybe with a few exceptions but I can't think of any at the moment)

When you have an accident, the more injured you are, the more you endanger others. For example, if you just break your wrist and have cuts and scratches, they can take you to the hospital without a siren. If you break your femur and there is evidence of serious internal injuries, they're going to run the siren. If there is head trauma, they're going to go to the hospital at breakneck speed, or possibly even lifeflight you in. These more extreme modes of transportation are inherently more dangerous than a non-siren ride to the emergency room.

Then, let's assume you get killed because you weren't wearing a helmet. Then, let's suppose you have a family with children. Not only will they be exposed to psychological trauma, if your death results in your family being thrown into poverty, or if it means your wife becomes the primary breadwinner, statistics show that poverty and being raised in a one-parent family are prime indicators that the children are more likely to be exposed to just about every peril that could befall a child from violence, to abuse, to disease.

It's easy to think that a decision not to wear a helmet has no repercussions beyond yourself, but this may be true only as long as you don't think beyond the accident itself and its repercussions on others.

WTF? If I die my daughter will be exposed to every peril that could befall a child? Get real!

Obviously if I died from not wearing a helmet while riding my motorcycle, I would not be the only 1 affected. My family and friends would also be affected, but HOW do you say that BS above unseen?

I believe if you look at motorcycle fatality statistics helmets don't play much of a role in life or death on the highway where speed and the type of accidents that are prevalent make it much more likely that a fatality will occur than an in town accident.

Regardless of statistics, riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous in itself to the point that it should be the rider's choice, helmet or no.

Okay, let me say before I drop this URL on you that I'm no fan of Dan Quayle, and that this article from The Atlantic magazine really has nothing to do with Dan Quayle directly, except for the provocative title. If you did read it, which, as I said, you won't (because people in general rarely read anyting might mean, if true, they'd have to change their mind), you would find out that it's not bullshit. Kids from single parent families do measurably worse in life in just about every way that can be measured.

The problem with stating the truth about single-parent families is that all the single parents get their backs up and get defensive.

This is the problem with stating the truth about anything nowadays. If it's true but not politically correct, you can expect a drubbing.

The statistics are clear. Like any statistics, they are conclusions based on large samples and don't really say anything about particular cases. They only tell us that IN GENERAL a kid is better off with two parents (of opposite sexes as well, by the way).

I don't hate or even dislike single parents. I was simply pointing out a fact about what happens when a kid loses one of his parents IN GENERAL. Obviously, if his mom has divorced an abusive SOB, the kid is better off in that case. Still, the generalities apply.
