2257 Compliant!
At Matrix Content we have been working feverishly to digitize all of our model releases and IDs. After five years of shooting two to three times a week, it was a huge job. We will make sure all of our webmasters will be full complient and avoid any legal issues from use of our images. This will be done at no cost to our clients. As many of you know we have been working closely with Brandon at 2257lookup.com, who has developed a system we will be implementing. It works like this:
1. Matrix has and will deliver the model's driver license/passport with picture and birthdate. All other information will be blacked out for the model's privacy. 2. You will also receive a file that has been locked with DRM. This file will include the full model release and ID. If the Department of Justice needs more info, they can come to you, or, use the DRM file to open up that info. If you have any further questions or concerns please let us know. Have a fucking fantastic day!

As Norman mentioned, there is a plan underway to use DRM to encrypt the model ID and releases, so that the documents are not blackened out, yet protected from just anyone viewing them.
This is an industry wide proposal and i am in discussions with several players to try and use technology to comply with the spirit of the law. The legal folks will be challenging the secondary record keepers responsibility on handing of records (as it states now, it means handing over the driver's license to all webmasters, and that's very bad). The idea is to have an industry accepted solution that can be shown to DOJ that the adult industry is understanding of the law and the intentions to protect children from abuse. Blackened-out ID that shows only the birthdate and photos would still be handed out, so that webmasters can verify that the age is over 21. Matrix Content and many other content providers already provide blackened ID in their sets.. the issue is whether it will be considered a tampered document. So in preparation that the new regs do become part of law, including the documentation part, then there would already have been a solution proposed and accepted by the community. Norman has already taken alot of time and expense to digitize all of his model id and release info because there content is widely distributed, and most chances of having to deal with DOJ inquiry. This DRM solution is not a 2257lookup.com service. 2257lookup service does play a role in assisting webmasters with identifying images, but the DRM of the model ID will be handled by a non-profit organization. Each participating content producer would receive a program that helps them encode their images to a DRM file and they are responsible for handing out the DRM files to their webmasters. There is not the concept of a centralized place for records, because that is clearly not allowed under 2257. The idea is simple, have localized copies of the complete, unaltered documents, but locked up until DOJ inquiry. There are some logistical issues to work out about how to unlock, but these are not difficult technological issues. -brandon

Also, please realize as Brandon has stated, 2257lookup.com is not doing this. It will be done by a non-profit organization. Yet, Brandon is stil trying to organize the content producers to provide this service to webmasters. He brought this idea to Matrix and to others and is constantly helping where ever he is needed. Kudos to Brandon. |
