Content providing is more like a brick and mortar business you have all kinds of issues.

production cost
distribution/exposure
and a huge one is COMPETITION.

Your pictures are not worth the film they are on if no one wants to give you what you want for them, the good thing about a capitalistic society is there is probably someone out there willing to do it for cheaper. Well good for you and yours, not so much for them. Also takes way more "moving" for them, always have to be pushing your product, always have to know how to sell, it is just like any other real world business LOTS of work.

The value of content depreciates very fast. Surfers only want to see a content set once (maybe twice) then it's boring (been there/done that). Then they want something new they haven't seen.

Surfers don't pay $30/month to join a paysite to see content that they've already seen 3 times. They pay to see new & fresh stuff they've never seen before.

It's all about new new new.

Think about watching sports on TV. It's fun to watch a basketball game the first time. What if I made you watch it again a week later? and again a week after that? and again a week after that? Same game, but after watching it the first time, it's not very interesting to watch it again and again and again.
