How many of you think you have a great idea (or ideas)...

are smart, ambitious and hungry to succeed, but are simply held back by a lack of funds? How much would you need to implement your great idea (5K 10K, 25K, 50K?)?

i'm curious how many people here feel that this is their situation...

I used to have great ideas all the time. But then I realized that great ideas don't come true without the desire and will to put them in motion. Now I'm out of great ideas, too busy putting average ideas to work.

lot of people accuse me of trying to reinvent the wheel, trying to make improvements on things that are better off left alone.. lol

lately my creativity has been shit, but i have great ideas sometimes.. few and far between.

i love being able to code tho and to bring my theories to life.. but i hate lacking the motivation to ever go completely thru with my projects (A.D.D).

My problem is not lack of good ideas, it is time. I had a CRAZY good idea this morning but no possible way I could get time to do it.

Michael Bolton : You think the pet rock was a really great idea?

Tom Smykowski : Sure it was. The guy made a million dollars. You know, I had an idea like that once. A long time ago.

Peter Gibbons : Really, what was it, Tom?

Tom Smykowski : Well, all right. It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor, and it would have different conclusions written on it that you could jump to.

start-up capital is the hardest thing for me. i could go to a bank and get a loan but i do not need to go into anymore debt. then i thought about taking on a financial backer, but how many backers would actually stay neutral in decision making. most, i find, want to steer the project their way.

lack of money is definitely the biggest obstacle to overcome for a new project for me.

*edit* 15k would be a great start

I just need someone to do the business plans and research. Then I'll shop it.

$25K to $500K depending on which idea.

but theres plenty of things that dont require a startup capital if you got other resources..

like in this biz. if you can find the right people to team up with, the design, the coding and traffic generation could all be done with hardly any money.. just takes teamwork

this is very true, sometimes having skills is better than having money.

It's not so much "great Ideas" as they say.. I mean really this is Adult on the web you don't have to reinvent the wheel to make a lot of money. I think what it takes is a good plan the ability to do the work and the capital to get it going.

Everybody and their brother has "their own great personal Ideas" on how they can make millions if they only had ($$X amount) of money to get it started. The rare thing is for someone to have all three items.

Sure I think I could run a successful program, I have some Ideas for some nice sites but don't have the funding to start up a affiliate program. Sure I would love someone to finance my stuff, but on the flip side if I work hard enough I'll do it myself it will just take a lot longer and I'll have more knowledge of what it takes.

both are great..

i would personally get more self satisfaction out of bringing a real world idea to life myself.. but i lack the skills to do that sorta thing..

i would love to invent something that would improve quality of life or make things easier on people, something tangible.. but my mind is more set to creating things with source code and math rather than gears and mechanics.

or opening a new kind of service store, something that hasnt been thought of, or an improvement (like super speedways or arcades/web cafes).

i guess thats one way ideas would cost money, lots of investing going into opening some sort of club or somethin, which would be an awesome experience in itself.

everyone has great ideas. only 1 person in a million can actually create a plan and execute it well.

everyone also thinks that they "are hungry to succeed" - they real question is "how much is enough" - everyone thinks that they want to take over the world... but as soon as they can pay their bills and the pressure comes off, they start to lose their desire.

I have a great idea. All it will take is about seven million to put it in place.

My idea involves me moving to another country in a warm tropical country, building a two million dollar house, and living off the rest of the money for the rest of my life.

Can I bring Raimi with me?

Money wouldn't really help any of my idea's most of them are theories that I have to come up with the proper equation to figure them out...

My issue I guess is to come up with the proper abstract way of accomplishing what I need more then money.

All my friends say I will be the success story of our circle.
I have the ideas (can't tell you...I'd have to kill you!)
I have the motivation (my family)
I have the skills (great people skills, practical thinking, innovative solutions, creative mind)
All I lack is the funds, but I will have that in time.

I've been planning something I haven't seen anybody do yet....been planning for 2-3 years. Just haven't had the capital, but I figure if I get all my ducks in a row, and work my butt off, it will come, and because I am so well prepared, I will have a head start. All I need is 10-20K to get rolling, a drop in the bucket compared to some people's required investment.

I've thought about asking for investors, and I still haven't completely ruled that out, but not too many people I know are looking for investments in this "risky" business, lol.

I have no doubt at all though that mine will be a name widely recognized someday. , I just gotta make sure it for good.

My idea is to have a rich dad, and to produce a few 100 k worth of content, to open a pay site and spend another few 100 k from dad to push it.

Then I would start posting on a popular board with a nick such as "silent" because that sounds like "I know it all but I am not telling".

I would plan to be "silent" all the time to live up to my nick and for that "who is that mysterious guy" effect.

But after a while I would feel that ever rising urge to let it be known what a successfull business man I am. I would never mention how I was able to spend so much to get my biz rolling in the first place though. That is the only thing I am going to be truly silent about

Every few month I would start a thread like this: "I am considering to throw away 500k worth of licensed content. Seriously. Or should I just give it to someone? What do you think?". Or "Do you have an idea and just need a few 10k? Let's hear it."

I will never actually tell that I AM going to give anyone anything, but sure as fuck I will always make it SOUND as if...

All the while I would sit back and watch the less fortunate webmasters (those without rich dad/heritage... whatever) trying to get a piece of the cake and actually believing that I'd ever give them anything.

This would make feel all warm and fuzzy inside - just like all daddy boys like to be a bit gruesome now and then because they never sensed the bitter parts of life.

That is basically my idea. Since the dad part didn't work I am waiting for a heritage or something now...

Sound good? Thought so

if that post was directed at me - i started with exactly $0 in late 1996, while working in a Genetics lab during my last year of University. my dad was an electrican, who was finally able to retire and now works for me

I thought it was directed at you.
I also did not think the post was an offer to invest money, just ask a general question.

hehe, taking handouts are never good

damages your integrity.. id rather earn it from someone willing to help me out. makes you respect them more and eliminates any feeling of being able to take advantage of them.

lotta people might not agree with this, that giving things away expecting nothing in return will earn you respect.. it doesnt, sure it will make people like you, but they won't respect you near as much unless you make them work for it.

directed at you? Not sure where you are getting that from?

Besides that, "dad" could stand for anything. Anything where a young guy all of a sudden has several 100k to play with, in his mid 20's

But out of curiosity and since you mentioned it. So you worked at that laboratory and put aside how much per month? $3000 every single month, for 5 years straight?

how old were you when you started out? if you dont mind me asking.

i started learning the ropes here my senior year of high school when i was 18.. im 21 now and havent really gotten far.

been workin fulltime jobs and moved out of my parents when i was 19, little over 2 months after graduation.. so the time crunch mixed in with my A.D.D has held me back from my full potential.

but too be totally honest, theres still no excuse for where i am today.. everyones responsible for overcoming their own obstacles and theres never a good excuse for not doing so

I had the craziest hairball renewable energy scheme pop into my head the other night. Talked to my dad about it (he's an engineer). But you'd need too large of an area for it to be plausible and economically viable. Bah! But still, it's nice to know that it's theoretically possible.

Patent pending.

time is the most important thing for me. There are too many things worth getting into, but never enough time to do all at once...
