photographers - which camera is best for

i normally use a D100 or EOS 10D but i want something a little bit simpler ... i dont want a piece of crap, looking for best cam for laid back, point and shoot but good res, good battery life, CF, good autofocus and just all around good digcam for around the house, at the beach, dont like dragging my work cams around where i might drop em off the side of a boat -

thanks in advance - ive been looking at coolpix 5700 and 8700, canon powershot pro 1 ... any recommendations>?

I have been swearing by Olympus for years for my point and shoot one. It takes some good shots.

It took these just yesterday.

I use the Olympus 3030 zoom, but the 5050 has a solid metal body with a flash shoe, so that might be the way to go.

have the 8700. It's OK, but I don't think it meets the task you describe. You can set it to auto and then it is point and shoot. It can be complex if you go to far beyond that (off to the manual).
