I'm all for stomping out child porn, but I don't think this is the way to do it...

http://www.newsfactor.com/perl/story/10085.html

I read the article Lensman posted about the FTC ruling, and saw this article.

Now I have a LOT of pictures on my hard drive, none of which are child porn. I'd hate thought to have this thing find something it "thinks" is and turn me in. They wouldn't find anything illegal, but the hassle of it all would be a nightmare...

Glad to read the evidence would be inadmissible....

I think they were smarter then that See now Joe SixPack is gonna be scared that if has Childpr0n0 and gets the virus, the feds are gonna know.

Now the media is doing exactly what it was expected to do, spread the paranoia to the masses.

If it prevents just one guy, I think it's good

The authorities will be so flooded with false reports of kiddie porn that eventually they will tend to ignore these reports, I think. It's not like tracking down CP is the only thing they have to do, and they, like anyone else, like doing things which get results.

I've heard the "anything that helps" argument regarding catching CP'ers, but it's way too easy for false reports to ruin good people. To me, methods with that result are wrong and not worth it. And when I say "ruin," I don't mean just to someone's reputation. The police can get a warrant and confiscate everything you have, keep it for months and years, prevent you in engaging in regular business, and then if you get your stuff back at all, they're in no way obligated to return it in good condition.

What is FAIR about that?

I say, be pretty darned sure before you turn someone in.
