SEO guys I need some suggestions on this
Ok I asked this question some time back and I didn't really get a good answer so I'll try again.
I have a site that is several pages deep. index.html gets a decent amount of SE traffic and some of the other pages get some as well. I want to put up a warning page and I'm not quite sure how to do it with out losing the SE traffic, as index.html gets the bulk of the SE traffic. I have built a second page to replace the index (basically a copy of index.html) and have started pushing some links in that direction. However is there a good way to try to move the SE traffic in that direction? ![]()

change all your back links to point to this new page, your SE traffic will bypass the warning page eventually but o-well. I'm not a huge fan of warning pages unless they are actually optimized to what your looking to do.
There is a guy out there now that optimized about a zillion warning pages to different terms and he seems to be doing ok for now. That's something you may want to think about even though it's kinda cheesy and google looks at it badly. |

I don't mind if the SE enginesfind pages inside the warning area.. I just want to put a warning page up for type in traffic, so if worst case ever happens I can at least say I had a warning page in place.

you could possibly make the warning some kind of java thing that covers the page.

I'm just trying to set the site up like all my other sites and have a warning page. I bought this site and it was already established with the main page on index.html. I need to change that, but I don't want to lose my SE traffic.

.htaccess redirection can work based on either the referral or botname. Or you could just change the index page right now to a warning page and have it go to the new page.
